Best turntable for the buck
Make sure you have the turntable isolated properly, especially if you are on a suspended floor. My P8 is on a wall shelf, and it sits on a Townshend seismic platform. Sound improvement was huge with the Townshend, and foot falls non existent when ...
33rpm vs 45rpm - which is better
All things being equal, 45's sound better. Usually they have a much bigger gap at the end of each side where the sound deteriorates due to the angle change between the stylus and record deviating more and more from 90 degrees. May be less apparent...
Was my friend given misinformation.
Let it Ride is maybe the worst movie I have ever watched (in its entirety). Thought it would get better. I can't believe Richard Dreyfus did it. Must have needed the cash. The OP didn't mention whether his friend also was going to put it in a roo...
Ridiculous sale
I paid about $3K for a basic sub about 20 years ago that is supposedly with $12K. I don't wear it if I am going into Center City Philly if I am going to be walking outside for any length of time. Sad state of affairs....
Concerning high end audio names in new cars
I wonder how much the higher end names are even involved with the car audio systems design and manufacturing. I bet many of them are simply putting their name on a ordinary system manufactured by a no name or non premium reputation manufacturer. ...
Ridiculous sale
If the market is $4500 and sales are happening in a typical orderly fashion between evenly motivated parties, that is called a market. If the market for the amp is $4500, then Decware is leaving money on the table by selling their product below ma...
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
Townshend and vibration control in general, and the Townshend seismic platform made a huge improvement for me under my turntable and I have treated my speakers with Symposium platforms because they are more stable since my speakers are tall and t...
Buyer Beware
Technically a check never "clears". Banks settle with each other, but checks can be returned any time if they don't get the funds from the payers account. A certified or cashiers check has funds already removed from someone's account. so they are ...
How important is spending time with your gear?
I like simplicity and minimalism. Other than a wall mounted TT that can't be hidden of course, nothing to look at on my 4 rectangular boxes at all except a volume knob and input and record selector knobs that never get touched and a couple push bu...
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have?
+1 @mijostyn For experimentation I took a few of my older audiophile records to my dealer who recommended a record cleaning machine and we tested them on a system about at the level of mine to see if cleaning actually made them sound better. I han...
Most Realistic Recordings
The UDs killed a lot of trees (damn spell check).
Most Realistic Recordings
If you are talking vinyl, the pressing quality and process matters of course, but the truly great sounding records were expertly engineered and then care and quality were taken in the pressing process. I recently tried a couple of the MFSL Ultra ...
Pigskin or jico leather mat
Lew - it makes sense to me, moreso with the Rega philosophy of light plinths and arms, not so much with the heavy platters and clamps, etc., as long as the table is isolated well (mine is on top of a Townshend platform that sits on a wall mounted ...
Pigskin or jico leather mat
Wouldn't you want the mat to isolate the record from the turntable motor and bearing noise? I have a Hexmat eclipse mat (admittedly on the expensive side) but it only touches the record with about 1 square millimeter total area from 13 tiny nubs e...
You know you have audiophile system when...
Audiophiledom is a club. As Groucho Marx said, I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member. Nobody want to be called an audiophile. Go into any record store that sells used records - the owners have one word audiophilenut. They don't ...
