Help with high end bookshelf speakers
So we STILL don't know anything about your current setup and the sound you're looking for.  It's always odd when people ask for help and then withhold information. It makes one wonder... @mlsstl Yeah, the writing’s on the wall here.  When tryin...
Would you still pay $10k or more for a turntable not full analog front end these days ?
When a $10k streamer closes the involvement gap with vinyl I will buy one.   @wlutke It does.  There are several people here who now say their streaming setup is the equivalent of their expensive and accomplished vinyl rigs.  Talk to @ghdprenti...
New preamp or up grade my cartridge and or phono amp?
As with upgrading any audio component, which preamp would be driven primarily by what improvements you’re looking for and what sound characteristics are most important to you.  Bigger 3D soundstage, better tonality, etc. would be the kinds of thin...
Alternatives to Marantz Model 50/CD50n?
I think the non answer is your answer.  If you’re looking for more than midFi you’ll lose things like Wi-Fi (for which there’s an easy workaround) and ARC as you’ve obviously already found.  At a certain point lifestyle and hifi products part ways...
Sonus Faber Amati vs. Wilson Sasha V (and perhaps vs. Focal n3)
Not sure why you’re painting yourself in a corner with the Mac gear. You’re in an enviable position in upgrading both amplification and speakers simultaneously, so why not keep an open mind and choose the speakers/electronics that work best togeth...
Double up on speaker cables
Your nice speakers (and you) deserve better.  Sell your existing cables and buy something that actually does what you’re looking for.  But by all means give this a shot — it’s free and you’ll probably learn something if nothing else.
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
I'm curious why I didn't get the usual suspects when I asked about a high-end bookshelf speaker i.e. Sonus Faber, Dynaudio & Revel. Makes me wonder... Because for some reason, and despite being asked repeatedly by several others, you’re pro...
New preamp or up grade my cartridge and or phono amp?
But I'm still kind of stuck on why the preamp is so important if I'm using the "Reference Mode" which is supposed to be a straight shot through. Unless it isn't. It isn’t.  A passive preamp is closer to what you’re describing (although even tho...
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
Humm, hadn't thought of divorce as an option but think it might be a tad more expensive. A long time ago Howard Stern, who had gone through a divorce himself, was interviewing Chuck Norris about his pricey divorce and gave him this advice — “Yo...
Whats the difference ...
Not a fan of all in one units personally — too limiting and inflexible.  If I was you I’d upgrade to a better streamer first (maybe like Innuos Pulse Mini with upgraded LPS from Teddy Pardo) and then the DAC.  You’ve got a nice preamp so not sure ...
Sonus Faber Electa Amator III vs. the Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4?
...So does S. Faber even make a stand-mount with their older, "traditional" presentation??? @stuartk Unfortunately I have no idea.  I think @ghdprentice might be able to give you some helpful insights on that if he wants to chime in here.
What are your thoughts/opinions on the Orchard Audio Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premium
I had the AGD Audions V2 in my system as reference. The orchard audio made me sell the AGD audions. I did a shootout between these amps on a number I speakers like magnepan LRS+, Harbeth 40.3, 30.3, zU Audio Soul 6, b&w 805d3 etc and found th...
Sonus Faber Electa Amator III vs. the Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4?
Those are very different sounding speakers so I’m a bit surprised you didn’t clearly prefer one sonically over the other even in different systems.  I’ll just say I got to compare the original Joseph Audio Pulsars to the 805 D3s and to my ears the...
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
I’ll echo others — what speakers do you have now, what sound characteristics are you looking for, what’s your budget, and are you looking for new or used? Need more to go on here.  Also, is divorce an option?  That could potentially solve all your...
Illumination
Obviously it’s easier to critique a recommendation than to take the time to look things up like I did. Obviously it’s even easier if the OP just gives more sufficient info upfront rather than everyone else then having to go through the same sea...
