Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE vs Bryston BP6?
If possible I think it would be best to wait til you have the $ to upgrade both the preamp and amp together so you know they're compatible w/ each other and your tastes (or go the integrated route as mentioned above). I have a BP6 and consider it ...
Preamp-power amp interconnectors advice
If you're planning on upgrading the amp and/or preamp anytime soon I'd personally skip this step and focus on getting the components right. However, if that's not going to happen for a while and you're just looking to find a way to live happier wi...
Let's ID Speakers with 1st order Crossover design.
Haven't thought about them in a while, but this post reminded me I've been impressed by Gershman Acoustics at shows (I'm thinking of the Avant Garde in particular) and I think at least some of their models use first-order crossovers and might actu...
Rockport Aquila vs Altair
Cmalak -- I'd be very interested in your impressions of the Miras versus the Ankaas and then the Aquilas. My guess is it's a matter of scale and dynamic impact, but if you could provide more details as to the differences it would be most appreciat...
Upgrading to AZ Silver Reference II
I use Satori Shotgun biwire cables and have used both silver ref II and matrix ref II as well as the original versions in my system. I agree with others that the silver ref II is the more neutral interconnect, but whether that will be to your liki...
Tubelike SS Power amp
6 moons just did a review of a Wyred 4 Sound amp that might be worth a look.
best AVR for dual use in HT/music?
I'm with Maineiac if you have the space in your rack. Sink the majority of funds in a good stereo pre and amp and get a decent but cost-effective AVR that you can swap out when formats (or your tastes, budget, etc.) change.
Which hdtv would you recommend and why?
If you're in a very bright room or are into gaming I'd go with LCD/LED. If light is not as much of a concern and you're into movies and sports I'd side with plasma for better blacks and less motion blur. Plasmas also have a much wider viewing angl...
Bryston BP6 or ?
I haven't heard the BP26 although I'm told the basic circuitry between it and the BP6 is very similar so I'd expect them to sound more alike than different. Sorry I can't be more help there.
Bryston BP6 or ?
It's one of the most neutral and uncolored components I've heard and owned. Certainly the most neutral preamp I've heard. I haven't had a passive pre in my system so not sure how it compares dynamically (or sonically), but it's been as good in tha...
Speaker cabinet made of real wood
I always thought the Diapason Adamantes were one of the most attractive speakers I've seen. There's a review of them on 6moons now, and they seem to put quite a bit of effort into their woodwork.
Soliloquy 5.3 Driver Replacements
Here's a whacky idea, but not much to lose at this point I guess. Maybe you can round up some other 5.3 owners who need and/or want backup drivers and you can pool together to purchase a pair of 5.3s and split up the drivers? So if you could find ...
2k$ speakers that meet my criteria?
I'd say Vandersteen, but you're going to have to work on placement to get the best 3D presentation as I suspect you would with most speakers. As Maineiac implies, you might have to be flexible on at least one attribute to get everything you're loo...
Best preamp for $1000 or less with remote
That helps, and the first thing that pops to mind is something from Bryston (I own the BP-6). Thought the Adcom recommendation was a good one too, but I remember reading they had some reliability problems in the past but not sure how widespread it...
Best preamp for $1000 or less with remote
Would be helpful if you told us what you're using now and what sound qualities you're looking to change and/or improve upon.
