Let's Talk DAC's
After a short time enjoying it I knew I was keeping it.  I spent that money on a SOTA Escape turntable and Sutherland KC Vibe and got back into vinyl  @oddiofyl  Nice!  Bonus!!!  And congrats on your great new DAC.  Love hearing stories like th...
Room Too Dead
Change the drapes.  Natural fibers (cotton, wool etc) will absorb sound but synthetic fibers (rayon etc) will reflect sound.   @rick_n That’s a very good thought and gave me an idea — the OP could replace the drapes with plastic shower curtains...
Does an upgrade make sense?
Maybe I could use a little more depth (left right is fine and speakers truly disappear), and maybe a touch more dynamics. @mahgister @mahler123 These are a couple specific things the OP said he’s looking to improve.
Room Too Dead
I selected the right product to tame about 90-100 hz and covered with a gauzy, decorative fabric.  .  So yes, insulation can absorb lows if it's what the sound reflects from.  That’s just mid bass and not what I’d consider “lows.”  The worst ba...
Room Too Dead
A heavily damped room is just fine..... IF you can tow your speakers in toward your listening position. When you are dampened everywhere, you lose your reflection and boundries. Might as well just listen to a good headphone setup. Same thing an...
USB Cable - A to B
@fuzztone Out of curiosity, which LavriCable model did you use?

Maybe not to throw the baby out with the bath water here, if you buy through Amazon I believe you could still try a Musician Pegasus or Draco R2R DAC and can just return it within 30 days or so I think.  Not a fan of returning stuff here, but if y...

Thin plastic can reflect highs while still letting bass go through and get absorbed by underlying layers. Just to be clear, bass will not get “absorbed” in any way whatsoever by underlying layers of drapes — just some mids and highs will be att...
Preamp to Pair with NAD M23
@erik_squires makes an excellent point.  There are some neutral tube preamps that may be a big improvement in several ways over what you have now.  I’d recommend taking a look at the Linear Tube Audio MZ2.  I actually bought this to replace my bel...
Preamp to Pair with NAD M23
The Benchmark may be a good candidate.  The other thing to consider is moving up the Bryston line.  Here’s a nice BP26 at a good price — it doesn’t have the phono section but you could either use the one in the 11b or get a better separate phono s...
Does an upgrade make sense?
I don’t feel a lack of bass but I understand what they can do to free up my speakers.  But I don’t like crossovers either.  Understood, but subs will do much more than just add bass, and as I mentioned earlier your entire soundstage will expand...
Preamp to Pair with NAD M23
Would really help to know what specific improvements and sound characteristics you’d like to achieve, otherwise you’re just gonna get random recommendations that are all over the place.
Does an upgrade make sense?
Given that you’re mostly happy with the sound now and what you’re looking for, I’d absolutely add a couple subs. Your speakers only go down to 36Hz (-3dB) so you’ll definitely get a better/deeper bass foundation, but you’ll also get an even more e...
New to Streaming
@mteetank I’d highly recommend doing a free trial of Qobuz just to see if you hear a significant improvement as everything is CD quality or better.  If you do you may find very little use for your Teac or iPod anymore (I very rarely spin a CD thes...

DDC? For what.? Digital to Digital converter? These were introduced as a band-aid when DACs had horribly implemented USB inputs to overcome bad cables, noisy PC ports, ground loops, and using the PC clock in synchronous mode. Those issues were id...
