DAC with i2S
I own the Musician Pegasus that’s excellent and can be had for $1100.  Here’s a good review… https://soundnews.net/sources/dacs/musician-audio-pegasus-r2r-dac-review/ For that price you could add their Pisces DDC for $520 so for $1620 total you’...
ATC SCM40
@lonemountain I agree, the ATC dome mid is overall the most impressive midrange driver I’ve ever heard.  Question for you — I’ve read the mid they use in the 40 is different from the one used in the 50 on up.  Can you explain the design and perfor...
UPS or surge protector/power conditioner? And if UPS, recommendations please under 1K
I’d be concerned that a UPS isn’t optimized for audio.  No evidence to back that up but would be a concern for me.  Another option, you could get this highly-regarded Audience AR2p and plug two of these Wiremold power strips into it and have 16 ou...
Looking for decent DAC with volume control
The Bricasti M3 is an easy recommendation. I’d also recommend Bel Canto as I had a DAC3VB in my system and not only was the DAC excellent, especially with the virtual battery supply (VBS), but used as a preamp I couldn’t tell any difference betwee...
Music Doesn't Get Better Than This.
Nice tune.  Embarrassed to say I’d never heard it, so thanks for sharing!
Help With New Preamp Decision
Someone above mentioned the yellow board was the old board so perhaps the brown board is the new one?
Led Zep Fool in the Rain
@rettrussell Very interesting and insightful — makes a lotta sense.  Thanks for that!
Looking for decent DAC with volume control
Budget?  New or used?  What sound characteristics are you looking for?
Is more amp power always better...?
Your speakers are not highly sensitive so going with higher power isn’t a problem, and the less hard an amp needs to work the better. In your case with your speakers and in your room I’d think anything 75Wpc+ should be fine, and I’d focus more on ...
New Amp... Is it time to switch my speaker cables??
FYI, I got to compare Acoustic Zen Satori and Audience AU24 in my system and honestly couldn’t identify any difference.  They’re the only ones that challenged my Satoris in 20 years. I go back to my prior recommendation.
Led Zep Fool in the Rain
@vuch I’d encourage you to find some videos and learn a shuffle as it’s one of the most fun beats you’ll play.  Listen to songs like “Home at Last” or “Reeling in the Years” by Steely Dan, “Fool in the Rain” by Led Zep, or “Rosanna” by Toto among ...
Help With New Preamp Decision
I believe all of the options I posted originally are fully balanced XLR, it is an option on the MicroZOTL I would double check that. Last I looked you don’t get fully balanced in Backert preamps til you get above the Rhumba, but I could be wron...
Led Zep Fool in the Rain
@ibmjunkman She’s so damn impressive.  If I’d nitpick I’d say she needs to work on the fills and 7-stroke rolls, but that’s little stuff and she gets the important stuff right including the all-important feel of the groove.  I’ll tellya what as a ...
Help With New Preamp Decision
Excellent info — thanks for that! Given what you’ve said I’d be looking squarely at the MP3 because it’s fully balanced. I think the LTA would be next followed by the Backert (Terry London reviewed both a marginally preferred the LTA), but I don’t...
Time, Wear, and Technological Evolution
If you like the sound of the speakers I’d play with speaker placement first. Just as an exercise, try pulling the speakers out another foot into the room and drop the crossover to the sub to around 40-45Hz and see what happens. My guess is that 40...
