Is the Marantz PM8006 powerful enough to power my B&W 802 Matrix Series 3?
As a former owner of a Marantz PM8005; I can say its one IA that I wish I would have kept for secondary use in another room or location.  You can bi-wire the PM8006 if it suits your taste, and even output to two subs (pre-out) if that's in your in...
Can an audio rack be that important?
I found racks with cross-bracing and fillable tubes sufficient for tubed equipment, but the turntable was better isolated by a tri-pod style rack with each section separated by needle point connections. This virtually eliminated all resonance and ...
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
Had similar issue with Neil Young Harvest pressing bought brand new from Amoeba in Hollywood CA.  Took it back but they wanted to only allow me another copy of the same.  After negotiation I was able to get a credit instead and found a clean older...
DId you get that paperwork from the IRS about purchasing? over $600.00
Couldn't agree with @bigtwin more; hence "see an advisor..." As for audits; not very prevalent these days, but I'm not advocating poking the bear or breaking laws. Or alternatively; to paraphrase from the movie The Frim; "I don't care about trig...
DId you get that paperwork from the IRS about purchasing? over $600.00
If you regularly sell stuff (audio and other) I would suggest a business ID and checking account for all transactions.  That way you could write-off all your audio subscriptions, audio conferences, travel, equipment you buy/sell as inventory plus ...
DId you get that paperwork from the IRS about purchasing? over $600.00
recapping what's already been posted:  The IRS is after income and not imposing a "Sales Tax."  So keep note of what you paid for it (like stock transactions) and profit (income).  If you sold it for $1000 but paid $1200; that's a $200 loss, no in...
Advice on Integrated Receiver
But first consider speaker placement in the room see Get Better Sound: https://www.getbettersound.com/ Before spending more money on equipment!
Advice on Integrated Receiver
Marantz PM8006 Had one of these (PM8005) and found it a great value for the price. Good power and nice MM phono input. Connections are quality of higher priced IAs and two sub outputs available.
Do your speakers bite??
So many variables to consider here; not sure I interpret "bite" correctly but if the question is realistic vs. engaging then you could find an endless list of speakers claiming to be one or the other. First look at your room (Getbettersound.com) ...
Cartridges
All of the above😉.  You won't appreciate the Hot Stampers without the cart and rig to bring out the difference.  And the money just keeps rolling out the door🙄. Beware there's a thousand ways to select and optimize a cart, tonearm, turntable comb...
Is it worth upgrading a CD player?
Another point, I use a Marantz NA6005 for streaming, but I optically connect it to the McIntosh MCD85 to use the newer McIntosh DAC for conversion to analog.
Is it worth upgrading a CD player?
I went from a Marantz CD5004 to a McIntosh SACD 85 paired to a McIntosh MA352. While the DAC in the McIntosh is an improvement, added SACD capability is the most significant. I will note the little old Marantz still sounds very good in the same se...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
To: Wife: "Honey, we can afford it; next question." Casual friend/relative: "Can't find this stuff at best buy" True interested party, looking to build their own: "I break it down by priority and retail vs used options."
SQ difference XLR vs RCA ?
I use a short .5m XLR connection from a Macintosh SACD (MCD85) to a Macintosh MA352 IA.  I was originally using the RCA outputs and inputs for SACD/CD.  It was a noticeable improvement in sound quality on many SACD & CDs (not all). My conclus...
Techniques for isolating and comparing a component upgrade or change
I'm also recalling a discussion in Get Better Sound on the importance of using female vocal material to evaluate components.  I'll re-read that section and add some familiar jazz and R&B female vocal tracks to my evaluation.
