Power Receptacles - Review and Comparison
In thinking about the DIY tube traps. I still recall the day I first put them in my system, one of those red letter days you never forget about. It was amazing how much information I had been losing from excessive bass resonance due to room intera...
Power Receptacles - Review and Comparison
Dave, I only mentioned power cords, I neglected to mention their connectors. Different combinations of metalurgy result in different sonics. I've experimented quite a bit here as well, way to much to go into here. If you're interested, check out D...

Not surprised you like the Mundorfs in the CDP, I thought they would have been perfect in my two prior tubed DACS. Not so great in SS digital.
Minimax or Audio Research SP 9 mk III ?
Agreed, the AR 9 Mk II is thin sounding and lacks dynamics, not one of AR's better offerings. NOS tubes won't give it sufficient body, the SS circuitry dominates any tube swaps.

I also hear differences in AC outlets. Now to really confuse you, describe the sound of various outlets in combination with a variety of PC's, just like seasoning food.
New Woofers for Alon V's?
Either repair foam surround as I did with my previous Alons, or send them to Bill.I believe the Circe woofers have the alnico magnets, may be a nice upgrade, just as the alnico mids and tweeters are.
Speakers that reveal bad recordings? Not for me.
I will ammend my comments. There are some truly bad recordings that are simply unlistenable. However, I find those recordings unlistenable on any system, if they're truly bad they even sound bad on my car system and the boom box at work. I listen ...
Speakers that reveal bad recordings? Not for me.
I agree, all recordings should sound better on the highest resolution systems. Having said that, this is not easily accomplished, one may have to search for years to find the correct synergy. Resolution and forgiveness are not necessarily exlusive...
Another Cable Burn-in Question
I too doubt the midrange warmth you're seeking will ever come through, sounds like too much silver. I like the sparkle and/or extra illumination silver gives, just a little goes a long way!
Another Cable Burn-in Question
As Rodman states, the preamp doesn't need to be on, I've burned in tons of cables, capacitors this way. Get a real cheapo cd player for the burn in, $100 or less, good investment for further burns.

My experience with the Mundorf Silver in Oil and V-Caps leads me to believe you would like the V-Cap over the Mundorf. I find the Mundorfs to have a rising response (brightness) in upper mids and highs, others report the same. This will only make ...

Perillo, I suspect you like the MBL's imaging capabilities, much different from our Merlins. When I first went to my Merlins from my previous Alons (2 different models over many years) I was somewhat disappointed, they sounded closed in compared t...

Pedrillo, I've always noticed your decoupling technique with the Merlins. I believe what you say about decoupling them as I hung a cd player with fish line from the ceiling some years ago, best isolation I ever acheived with a digital source. Stil...

I suspect Pedrillo is listening in the manner Almarg mentioned earlier. Pedrillo even states he has an optimistic listening bias. I listen to bad recordings on my high resolution system using the same bias, you can find the good in just about anyt...
Speaker Help Required
Speakers are not your problem, your problem is the opening to the hallway on the right speaker. You have the right idea, adding a door, will give added reinforcement. Since you can't add a door, how about some temporary free standing room treatmen...
