which power tube sounds better: EL34 or 6550
I would agree with Rcprince's observations. I have Cary slm 100's which can use el-34, 6550 or kt88. Harmonic richness is the el-34 strong suit, especially running triode, a little tubby on bass but the midrange and highs make up for it. I only us...
Happiness is A Warm Set of EL34's
I have Cary SLM 100's. I had Svetlanas, switched to the SED's, a bit warmer and harmonically richer. Cary also did a circuit modification to my 100's that decreased the amount of negative feedback, increased warmth, may be able to do same for you.
I need to replace my E34 tube on my Audio Aero Amp
Infinitebaffle is correct. I had been using the 'new' Svetlana's, recently switched to the SED's, harmonically richer, more transparent. SED's are the way to go.

Try out Magic Christian Music. Carry On Till Tomorrow, Walk Out In the Rain, Angelique, Knocking Down Our Home, Dear Angie, etc, etc,.... just about every song is awesome. I first heard this album as a soundtrack to the film, The Magic Christian, ...
Music everywhere, too much?
I often find the incessant music soundtracks in film to be really irratating. Where's the silence? Silence can be as emotive or even more emotive than many of these lame soundtracks.
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. From Won't Get Fooled Again, The Who.
What was your first music that you paid for?
Growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the 60's, we listened to a station out of Windsor, Ontario, CKLW AM. It was either garage rock or soul for us. Bubble Puppy-Hot Smoke and Sasafras, Blues Magoos-Pipe Dream, There's a Chance We Can Make It, then...

Hi Greg, I would still be interested in a new club. Your home appears to be a good place for a first meeting. I also have some equipment I could bring along. I have 2 systems, one is SET and some may like to hear this setup or parts of it. Thanks,...
Best red book/SACD player under 1K stock or mod ?
Marantz sa8260, very musical, might find one used for around $800
Hours sitting around just listening to music?
I try to spend at least one evening each weekend listening to music in the sweet spot in my dedicated listening room. My listening sessions generally go from 8 or 9pm until 3 to 5 am. Even with that I never have the time to play all the music I ha...

I'm in Whitmore Lake and would be interested in an audio club although I'm not sure I could help in setting it up due to time constraints.
vocal distortion on Jayhawk's Rainy Day Music
The distortion is on just about every song. The reason for distrusting American Recordings also goes to a previous release by the Red Devils, it was a live recording (I don't recall the title) it was also distorted in the vocals and I returned tha...
Alon II Mark I Speaker Setup Please help
I've had my Alon II Mk. I's for aprox. 8 years. My listening room is aprox. 13' x 30'. In experimenting with placement I've found placing them on the long wall aprox. 6' apart, 40" from the front wall and at least 36' from side walls with no toe i...
What about Bybee Filters?
I have been experimenting with the bybee filters for the past 3 weeks and my experience has been quite unsettling. I had my perpetual tech. p3a and monolithic sound modified by Modwright 3 weeks ago. I had the level II upgrade and power supply upg...
