How difficult to set-up a Well Tempered Classic
I believe that Bob Clanfield originally set mine up a few years ago also after I purchased the reference arm upgrade from him. He's an outstanding person and I hope that he's doing well.Bill, small world, I have a reference / Shelter 901 also.Steve
Well Tempered motor
Jim,Since this thread is talking about WT motors, could you share with us the sonic improvements that you experienced by going to the OL motor? Also, did you consider any of the upgraded components such as the beefed up power supply?I'm considerin...
Well Tempered Classic-round or square motor?
Baranyi,You have the older square version. The round version features a round cut out in the table with a round top and round base.
How difficult to set-up a Well Tempered Classic
Baranyi,I live in Schaumburg. I have the Well Tempered Reference, which is close to the classic, and if you need a hand, drop me an email. Steve
Designing a Plinth
Jimbo,I'm curious about the design of the plinth. Are you trying to model it after the WT table or come up with a different design? Also, do you have a jointer, planer to work down raw wood and also be able to glue joint smaller widths? If so, you...
ARC LS-5MKIII or ARC LS-25MKII
Thanks Ken. I also use the Seimens 7308 as driver tubes in my amp. They were the richest sounding as compared to Amperex and the telefunkens.
ARC LS-5MKIII or ARC LS-25MKII
Yes, John described the transaction as it occured and both of us ended up winners. If I didn't have an ARC amp, I would have kept the 30se & had it converted to the 31se. I made the switch to the LS5 because of the percieved synergy with a bal...
ARC LS-5MKIII or ARC LS-25MKII
Yes, I also support JA's opinions. Thanks again for the LS5, John.
ARC LS-5MKIII or ARC LS-25MKII
Since you have balanced components already, I would take the LS5. You could then get a hold of some 7308/6922 tubes to replace the Sovteks, assuming that is what you're getting. If you want to continue spending like the rest of us, you can send th...
What TT for $1200 used?
Hello,I just wanted to provide a comment regarding the Well Tempered square motor Vs the round motor and also state that the square version table is an outstanding value also.As an owner of the square motor reference version for the last 13 years,...
What speakers for BAT VK-75, 75SE or ARC VT-100s
Note that with the Proac distribution of the new D2.5 & D3.8's, I would imagine that the former Response 2.5 & 3.8's will be seen in the used market.I just picked up a pair of 3.8's and I'm very happy with the way they sound with my ARC VT...
CDP with 2 sets of outputs?
The Classe CDP .5 has a set of balanced & single ended outs.
Are ARC new amps much better than older models?
Another option is to have Steve Huntley from Great Northern Sound upgrade the older ARC equipment. I beleive he used to work for ARC so he knows the stuff quite well.I had him upgrade my VT130SE & LS5-MKIII by changing the power supply, Caps a...
Proac D15 vrs D25?
Jbspeak,I haven't heard the D15's, but I did hear the D25's at a dealer and I was amazed that a speaker with only a medium sized mid/bass driver could throw out a sound as deep as they do. Typical ProAc sound, smooth/sweet & not tippy in the u...
Question about power tubes... KT88
Point well taken. However, a decent tube tester can be had for under 200 on Ebay, if someone does some basic research. I picked up a nice unit that has allowed me to check the condition of the tubes in my ARC / BAT equipment. I also discovered a sh...
