Replacing cloth on Magnepan 1.6
I have never replaced the cloth on my 1.6QR's, but there is an article about it on the Magnepan Users Group website.http://www.integracoustics.com/MUG/MUG/tweaks/green_lantern/repair.htmHope this helps. :o)
Speaker cable gauge and amplifier power
Here is my opinion on this.....as Albert Porter said, the gauge of most speaker wire is overkill - strictly considering the insulation breakdown point. I other words, 16 awg wire can easily pass 15 amps of current without melting the insulation an...
The best audiophile "gag" gift for X-Mas
Wow....what a discussion this has been! I have watched and casually studied both sides of the Creation vs Evolution argument over the years and have realized that people on both sides are passionate about their positions because there is evidence ...
Need CD interconnect advice.
I can only tell you what I have used and been very satisfied with, and that is Goertz Alpha-Core. I use them with my Sony DVP-S9000ES and have been extremely satisfied with them. They have bettered the Kimber wires I have owned and are also better...
Need advise choosing speaker wire
My personal favorite for value are Goertz Alpha-Core speaker cables. I have found them to be neutral and detailed, and they offer a money back guarantee so you can try them without risk. :o)
"Air, Extension, Resolution" Music or Hi Fi?
The fact that it can sound very, very good late at night makes me think that you may have noisy power. If you don't have power conditioning in your system, you may want to try it and see if it helps. :o)
Which Power Amplifier to buy: Sunfire or Parasound
THX rating is important when dealing with companies that design and sell borderline equipment. For well designed, quality amps it is meaningless - it just adds to cost due to licensing expenses. Both Parasound and Sunfire meet or exceed THX specs,...
Most bang for the buck?
I absolutely agree with power conditioning. If dedicated lines can be done as well then include them, but not to the exclusion of a good power conditioner. The other changes will add incremental improvements, but if you don't take care of all the ...
Review: Aragon 8008 BB Amplifier
A lot of people here tout the virtues of this or that amp, and rightfully so (there are a lot of great amps out there). However, I keep plugging along with my Aragon 8008BB (as well as my 3 & 5 Channel 8008's for my HT), and I have yet to feel...
With all your knowlege you have gained over time,
What would I do differently??? Being that I started this hobby 30 years ago, I was already buying the best technology I could afford at the time...with much enjoyment and no regrets. With today's knowledge I would put much more emphasis on wires a...
Amp help for the Maggies?
I have Maggie 1.6QR's and drive them with an Aragon 8008BB (pre-Klipsch design). I personally love this amp, and it will output 400W into 4 ohms with tons of current. They usually sell for around $1200 used - there's one currently for sale on this...
what's the next upgrade
Dedicated circuits and power conditioning - unless you have them and failed to mention it. I have Aragon 8008's in my system as well, and they responded extremely well to the power upgrades I did.
Digital Cables : Coax or Optical which is best?
I've been told that coax digital cables are best for runs up to approximately 2 meters, and that optical cables are better for longer runs. I think the problem with optical cables is that it is difficult to obtain a perfect interface at the connec...
Installing an AC Grounding System, Need Advice
If you have trouble driving the ground rods into the soil, my electrician used an electric impact hammer, and it worked well.
Better SS amp than my Bryston?
I agree with Eldartford. I'm one of those that prefer my Maggie 1.6's because the woofer and tweeter share the same technology. They were reviewed by TAS as being a little soft in the top end, but I seemed to have solved that by rebuilding the cro...
