AR-XA Cartridge with Plinius 9200 integrated?
A Jico SAS Styli on your Shure 91 will solve that problem.
Blue Point 2 vs. Elys 2 - On an LP 12, Ittok LV II
If you have a fixed phonostage, I would concentrate on the specs. of your future cartridge purchase. Don't worry too much about your table/arm. Your tonearm will perform well with a wide variety of cartridges.Do a common search here (forum) for th...
Recommendations for Sota Star
If your table doesn't come with the mid-level tonearm base (3 models), consider purchasing one. A 309 is a solid choice, you probably will not have to add weight to the suspesion using a 309, the tables are usually set up that way. If your in the ...
Number of yrs. to reach the finished line?
I have accepted the limitations of my listening space. So, not long ago I dialed back on gear a bit. Any future purchases will be a lateral move out of curiousity.
Nagaoka MP-500, what's your comment?
I have been running a MP500 for awhile now. My stage is fixed at 43db/47k/100pf. The cartridge has a nice midrange and plenty of detail. I found it more resolving than HOMC's in my set-up.
$2000 To Upgrade System
I wouldn't have said this a few years ago, but how about a integrated with a inboard phono ? It would have to be from a manufacturer with a history with analog. A Creek and Rega passed through my hands awhile back when I was inbetween gear. They w...
Find the weak link to help me spend $800 or so
Rnm4: I was refering to your pre/power. That pre has a historic following, a fine piece from that era. Sounds like you have that covered. Other thoughts: Swap the Grace for a used Graham 2.2. Consider another SUT, something that can be modified to...
Find the weak link to help me spend $800 or so
Has any of your gear been tested recently to make sure it's performing to it's full potential ? Otherwise, nice rig. I like where you spent your $.
Entry into HiFi
Matching your future phonostage (inboard or outboard) to your cartridge of choice should be a priority. It starts there. Look around at the used gear here. If there is something that interests you, do a search on it. Chances are someone will have ...
Spin Clean as good as RCM, ie-VPI etc?
To my knowledgde, there is no sustitute for a vacuum incorporated into the cleaning process whether it be a RCM or a DIY set-up.
Should I upgrade my turntable?
Depending on what your using for a phonostage, your return on ivestment may be better upgrading that. I have a DL160 and it didn't really shine until I found a proper matching stage. In most cases any standard MM stage will do, but the output is l...
Vintage Technics SL-1000A vs Pro-Ject Debut or Exp
A replacement stylus, Jico or SAS for the Shure would let you know your limit of what you have now. You may not find the tables you mentioned to be that much of an improvement. I went down a similar road. Be careful of going LOMC, matching your ca...
What are the weakest components in my system?
I found there is no inexpensive way to enjoy quality playback to a certain degree. Everyone has different listening standards/requirements.Think about replacing your current phonostage (first) and receiver.Speaker placement/room acoustics, clean r...
Suggestions for a good phono stage
HOMC is not overly rewarding if the phonostage cannot dial it in real close, been there. My experience with stages was below your budget, but a good match with the cartridge was a significant improvement.
Turntable Recommendation
I intially took a similar path. For right now, if you have the stock cartridge on your table you could upgrade the stylus and would benefit from that.
