Why do Maggies need a lot of power?
I had very good luck driving a pair of Magnepan MGIIIAs with two different versions of the B&K ST140 over the years.The "original" ST140 was, as it's number implied, a 70 WPC amp with an iron core transformer. Not a lot of these were produced....

I think I found the problem:I took the cover off to reseat the tubes and found that the large 100 uf 450v capacitor on the pc board had broken off from it's solder point on one side. It must of occured during shipping as it was delivered yesterday...
