Sunfire Cinema Grand Sig. I have never owned the others you mention, but listened to the Aragon and the Sunfire. I purchased the Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature as I prefered its power AND nuance over the Aragon. I needed an amp that would allow me to drive a very difficult...
What's under YOUR turntable? 2" thick maple slab, sitting on Mapleshade Isoblock footers. These are sitting on a custom made 3/4" thick granite shelf that replaced the stock MDF shelf of a Salamander Archtype 2. Bottom shelf is empty, all four threaded rod legs spiked to floor.
The heat of tubes... I know what you mean. I have been thinking about getting the ASL Hurricane monos, but the thought of 200 wpc of KT88s on a double amp stand in my room during the hot weather is making me rethink this for a spell.... Guess I'll live with my ever-so...
Acoustic Gitter LP Suggestions Ry Cooder and V.M. Bhatt "A Meeting By The River" on Water Lily Acoustics.Jerry Douglas "Look Out For Hope" on Sugar Hill (dobro and guitar)Great sonics and performance on both IMHO.
CD signal into a phono stage? 1 word: OVERLOAD. This applys to MC and MM stages. Signal will be so overloaded you would have no way to verify its quality or its ability to pass the much lower voltage a cartridge has. I wouldn't risk it.
Live Jazz Trio Recordings Bill Evans Trio: Live at Town Hall Vol.1 on Verve. Nice recording, virtuoso performance. don't know if it has been repressed, but there are lots of original pressings of it on the used market. I recently picked this gem up on a trip to the Princet...

Inexpensive SACD player....? Sony NS500V. Buy a used one for 150.00 (or less). Not bad stock, but have Matt Anker (SACDmods.com) do the mods for 330.00, and you will have yourself a surprisingly competent CD/SACD player for less than 500.00. Richard Kern also offers a mod pat...
VPI Magic Brick or Webster's Dictionary I bought one VPI brick in 1988. Still have it, used it on everything that I could, and frankly never found a dfference good OR bad in the sound. It is useful for adding mass to the top of a CDP, and looks nicer than some things you could use. My a...
Returning to 2 channel only. Suggestions? Sogood-I know what you mean. I've been going back and forth on this. My center channel speaker, while not up to the Maggie quality, is actually a pretty good performer. It anchors the dialog quite well. The NS500V is a weak link and needs to go re...
VPI redesigning experiment Talentkeeper-Ted has a description in his above post. To elaborate a bit: they are alternating layers of cork and ribbed rubber. each rubber layer is laid so that the ribs are are in alternating directions. They work very well under maple slabs an...
VPI redesigning experiment Ted-I have my VPI Scout on a 3" thick slab of Canadian maple and the Mapleshade Isoblock footers under it. The footers are on a 3/4" custom cut granite shelf which replaced the original shelf on the rack.My observations so far are that the maple r...
DIY Record Shelves? In my question about the shelves, another AgoNer contacted me privatly about custom granite work that he does. To make a long story short, he made me a custom shelf out of black granite to replace my Salamander Archtype 2 shelves for my turntable....
Song intros that really grab you? ? T-bone-I waited to post "Telegraph Road" because I couldn't decide if I should go with that or "Private Investigations" Should have listed both. Good call on your part. While we are at it: I like the opening of the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" ...
Anybody using Audio Advisor's Record Doctor II? My RDII was delivered the other day, and I must admit, it works as good or better than advertised. I have been able to render some of my grungiest LP's clean and playable again. I also ordered several hundred new sleeves. As I clean them, I replac... |
