Best Tube Dac you ve heard
The Audio Note DAC 5 on normal 44.1 CD fare outperforms the SACD-1 on SACD. Auditioned an Audio Note DAC 3 with CEC transport through Sphinx solid-state pre and power with KEF Reference loudspeakers. The lower-end extension was incredible: the dea...
Help: Tube Amps Pops Speaker Cone
Actually, this didnĀ“t work for long. The sputtering is back, sporadically. The distributor has told me that it will not damage my speakers and that I can use the amp as it is. But I now need to turn the amp on, wait for a hum, turn the amp off, an...
transformer Hum
Thanks, again, Richard.
Anybody knows about NBS cables?
Mar00 Thank you for the technical information. It correlates with my experience: I tested a Dragonfly XLR cable once and I did not like it: it could not spatially resolve instruments, had a very narrow soundstage, and worst of all had the loudest,...
Coincident Cables Experiences? Any Good?
Agree with Tm12. Broke in the Coincident IC during my last summer vacation. I put it between a CD player and a preamp and ran the CD player on repeat for the two weeks I was gone. That 360 or so hours of break-in was not sufficient, however, and t...
A Tombstone in the Living room????
What about SLATE? I just ordered a special table designed for my Simon Yorke turntable, and the material the designer uses is a 3cm thick piece of slate. The slate platform is attached to four spiked legs via some airline-industry (Lufthansa?) res...
The best CD Player for the money
Lindemann CD1, but I do not know if they have an American distributor (they are a small, family-run German company). The Rega Planet that has been suggested is an excellent option as well, but the Lindemann CD1 is far better.
Help: Tube Amps Pops Speaker Cone
I think I solved the popping problem inadvertently without changing a capacitor. I simply took out the VV52B output tube and firmly reinserted it. Popping was gone upon next start-up. What is this a sign of? A defect with the tube contacts? I thin...
Z-Systems RDP-1 and RDQ-1
Sleeping on this post, I thought I should include two areas for improvement in the Z-systems equipment. 1. Find a better way of powering the radc-2 than a wall-wart. I will probably throw out the stock power supply soon for a high-quality stand-al...
Levinson DAC s
Have any of you Levinson 360 or 360s owner ever A/B compared your DAC to a dCS? If so, what conclusions did you come to?
Conventional DAC
Agree with Rewiiki ("there is more to a good DAC than a good DAC chip")--most manufacturers pay about $5 for a Burr-Brown chip after their quantity discounts (that is, most digital audio manufacturers realize superb economies of scale with chip ma...
Z-Systems RDP-1 and RDQ-1
I am currentlly using the Z-systems RDP-1 as a preamp going into a DAC which is then fed into two SET VAIC 52B mono-block amplifiers (O dB negative feedback, 100 Kohms input impedance, 35 Watt output power). I have detected no drawbacks whatsoever...
Best headphone amp.
Amity HPA 2L is the best solid-state high-end dedicated headphone amp for normal headphones that I know. It is puristic Class A with only one transistor, and fully double-mono with two volume knobs one for each channel, a high-quality built in pow...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Maybe (I hope) I am wrong. But here is the idea stripped down to its basics (for classical literature students, at least): High-end reproduction is the modern "song of the sirens." Every audiophile is Odysseus. Good sailing with your DVP-S9000ES...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
I find this thread and the contributions so far fascinating. If someone where to call the audiophilic preoccupation with music and equipment IMPOVERISHING and NERVE-WRACKING, an average audiophile would probably resist. But I would like to insist ...
