I opened both MIT and Transparent netwks
Troy. thanks for the quick response about the NBS cable construction. It corresponds to what I imagined from inspecting the ends of the speaker cables--where the "2 covered bundles of copper wire" exit the colored external mesh-sheath and enter in...
I opened both MIT and Transparent netwks
Troy, what did you find in the NBS cable? What model did you open up? You are just the person I have been looking for.
Crown Jewel, whats it like?
For $500, I would go for it if you are sure that it has only 50 hours on it (it is easy to underestimate playing time and not easily measurable for the buyer). You can look at the needle under a magnifying glass or microscope for wear if you want....
Audiomecca Mephisto
I´ll wave the puck over my next Word Document and see if it performs a spell check. Maybe somebody should perform an excorcism on the title of this forum: it is Audiomeca (one "c") ... Re. 2-D soundstage on the Mephisto II: the rear part of the Me...
Crown Jewel, whats it like?
Davey, what price do you have on the Crown Jewel and how any hours does it have on it? The Shelter costs $650 and is the exact same cartridge as the Crown Jewel with a different outer shell. The Shelter can be bought new, direct from a distributor...
Audiomecca Mephisto
Buyer remorse? Spellbound, and then sort of cursed. On a brighter note: the best upgrade to this transport I have found is to sit it on a very solid support. (Perhaps a square meter of solid concrete would be best.). If the support wobbles, you ca...
Audiomecca Mephisto
Two other things (I realize I am getting cranky, so I better sign off soon): the black metacrylic casing of the Mephisto II is a real dust magnet, and difficult to clean perfectly (builds up static charge easily that can affect playing in mid-oper...
Audiomecca Mephisto
Have been using a Mephisto II for about a year now. It beat out a CEC TL-2X in A/B comparisons, because of naturality of ambience, space, and (slightly) better low-level information retrieval. I went through a love phase with this devilish seducer...
Before They Were Famous
Saw Kurt Cobain buy an NME, a Village Voice, and a porn magazine at a news shop in Alphabet City, NYC (Avenue A, between 8th and 9th, to be exact) in 1989. Exchanged words about the Nirvana gig the night before, and agreed to meet at a New Music S...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
1. Kiss, Destroyer Tour, 1976, Madison Square Garden, No Theatre tin pan alley theatre metal (bad acoustics and P.A., but I was too young to notice). 2.) Alice Cooper, "Killer" tour, 1972, Madison Square Garden, a guillotine meets a Boa Constricto...
Do the Audio gods shine upon you?
There are moments of calm and lucidity, in the dark of night, when the sound of the audio system is direct, the silence is pure, the transparency complete, when everything is heard precisely and not a single particular sound escapes the ear, when ...
Phono stage--please help
Tweek the EAR 834P: replace the ECC83 tubes with a matched and tested pair of E83CCs. EAR has very rigorous tube selection policies, but the E83CCs are better. Some early model 834Ps actually came with them stock. Whoever uses the 834P equipped wi...
Cable observations ....Cardas NBS
Asa, you have my deep respect. That has to be one of the best posts about NBS cables that I have ever seen on audiogon. You go much further than I did, and are much more precise. A few questions: What Hovland phono cable do you use? Did you hear t...
Simon Yorke Turntable
I bought my Simon Yorke turntable in Germany (where I live), but a reference to the German sales agency (ISENBERG AUDIO, Hamburg) will probably not help you even though there are two advantages to buying it here: 1. smaller import duty because of ...
Cable observations ....Cardas NBS
The primary reason that I use the NBS Signature II IC is for the midrange resolution. The King Serpent II could not separate instruments in the 200Hz-500Hz region as well as the Signature II. This is strange since the construction of the two cable...
