first vinyl purchase for new tt
I'll take the road less traveled in the rock category and suggest suggest something besides classic rock. If your username is any indication, you're probably up for something different. Try Mission of Burma's "Signals, Calls, and Marches" reissue ...
Speaker advice?
Any opinions on Mission?Chadlesko,I took a look at the Revel and Usher. Those look like a lot of speaker for my room. I'm going to start looking up some places to audition these.thanks everyone for your help.
Your vinyl guilty pleasure???
Musicdoc,Don't feel guilty 'bout Cat Power! Have you got the new covers record, Jukebox? It's stellar.
Speaker advice?
Thanks for all the suggestions. Now my list includes Spendor, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, and Totem. This is really helpful.I bought my father a set of Paradigm monitors a few years ago and they're very good, though they're the bottom of the line. I ...
Speaker advice?
Ray,My room is about 15' x 25', but the system is along an open wall that leads on one side to the kitchen and on the other to the hallway to the bedrooms. Directly behind the listening position is an exposed brick wall. I'm a renter in the boroug...
Good sounding 70's live LPs...
I almost forgot The Velvet Underground 1969 Live with Lou Reed. It came out in the 70's. The sound isn't great but it's the best you're ever gonna get for live VU.
Good sounding 70's live LPs...
Tom Waits, "Nighthawks at the Diner" was recorded live in the studio with an audience and sounds brilliant if that counts...Neil Young's "Live Rust" and "Rust Never Sleeps" are also good examples of live recording.
Replacement tonearm for Music Hall
I did the same thing on my MMF-5. The wires on those are unusually brittle and the clips are really tight on the supplied cartridge. I used the opportunity to upgrade and sell the MMF-5 as is, but you might consider having Brit Audio or someone re...
Picture discs - Collectors items?
It's really most unfortunate when an album's only vinyl release is a picture disc. Like Thurston Moore's recent "Trees Outside the Academy," or The Fall's "Are You Are Missing Winner."Both are great album's (ok, "Are You Are Missing Winner" isn't ...
What Vinyl quality should I be using?
No relation to the seller, but there's a Clearaudio Emotion Blue on Audiogon right now that looks like a decent bargain. Add a phono stage and you're ready to go for under $2000.
Which TT Music Hall 5.1 or Rega P1 or P2
Another former MMF-5 owner. Go with the P2! Kmulkey, I also went from the MMF-5 (though not SE) to the Scout and lazy is an accurate term in comparison to the Scout.
Suggestions for good shielded interconnects?
I second the VPI Phono Cable. It worked wonders for me in solving some RF interference.
LP Sound Quality
It sounds like you just might need to have your LP12 professionally set up. From the one LP12 I've heard, I think it'll be worth it!
OK to use spades in bare wire terminal?
Thanks Sugarbrie, I'll check them out.
VPI Scout Rubber Washer Issue
Is the washer tight around the spindle? Mine is pretty tight, so it doesn't slide off very easily.
