Ever used hybrid power amps?
I heartily recommend that you consider the Music Reference RM200. It is a 100 wpc hybrid with a transistor input section and a tube output section. It is built by Roger Modjeski, who, like Frank Van Alstine has spent decades designing truly wonder...

Are Rotel amps and preamps any good?
In the RIGHT application they can make beautiful music. In particular, I'm familiar with two systems that feature Rotel integrated amplifiers feeding Vandersteen 1C and and 2Ce speakers that serve all recorded music extremely well. However, I've a...
Audio Research D-115 MKIII tube amp..
I had an ARC D115 mk II for four years in the late 1980s and early 90s. It was used to power a pair of Martin Logan CLSes and was preceded by a Beard P101, and then a Spectral DMC10-Delta.This amp had a very clear and clean midband with that liqui...
How much does your system retail for?
Just including the main system that is used for 2-channel music reproduction only the retail replacement cost would be within a few $s of $40k. This is a staggering sum in my opinion, as this excedes the cost of my two cars.

Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
I had a Spectral DMA-80 for over a dozen years and was extremely pleased with it until I changed speakers. At that point it wasn't optimal and I initiated a very long search for a replacement. Ironically, I wound up going with one of the least exp...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
As several have mentioned, the number one reason that people treat their audio systems like appliances is lack of exposure to a great system. No music lover goes away from hearing a great system unchanged. Most want to have some modicum of that fo...

Who has the oldest speakers?
My father bought a pair of Scott 3-way "bookshelf" speakers in 1966, along with a Garrard idler wheel-driven changer and a Scott 15 watt transistor receiver. The Garrard has been dead for at least 25 years, the receiver for 10, but the speakers ar...
