S. Cal. POWER ...??
It's a problem. But, by listening at night I avoid most of the problems that I encounter during the daytime. I have not enjoyed the music as much when a power conditioner has been in line, although I have by no means tried them all.
What haven't you listened to in a long time, but..
I pulled Joy of Cooking's first record out of the collection a few weeks ago and was floored anew by how great Terry Garthwaite is. Joy of Cooking was a late 60's early 70's San Francisco area band that played a fine stew of blues, rock and jazz. ...
Where do you find new music?
I get alot from cruising the used record and CD bins at my neighborhood record store. Often, I buy music that I was unaware of by musicians that have interested me elsewhere. Those I like, I keep. Those I don't like go back to the record store.
Klipsch love them or hate them.
Love 'em (K-horns through Heresies), but like a few others more. Set up right they are very hard to beat.
Can you ever go back and be happy?
I had each incarnation of the Martin-Logan CLSes, with, and w/o subwoofers for many years, and loved them until the day they departed. In fact, I still love the sound of Quads, Logans, Soundlabs, Innersounds, and ETs when I have the occasion to he...
Bose 901
I have had direct experience with many Bose products, including two versions of the 901s and can confidently say that none of them were even close to my cuppa tea. The 901s were the only ones that were even remotely interesting, and that was becau...

underrated or unheard of musician/band
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings have recreated JB-style funk in their own image. Great, horn-driven hard funk arrangements. Tight, propulsive, original bass lines. Sharon Jones is a tough-as-nails, take no prisoners front woman. Simply outrageous!
Not recognized in their lifetime?
I have several LPs but there are two that get the most play; "A World of Piano", and The Great Jazz Piano of Phineas Newborn". I'm reasonably certain that both are currently available on CD. This may sound heretical, but not even Tatum blows me aw...

Would you buy speakers with out first listening ?
Personally, I feel that purchasing speakers, or any component without listening to it is asking for disappointment. You may be lucky, as some of those above have testified, but you are quite likely to be unlucky at some point. Years ago, I was a c...
What's your latest "Discovery"
Right on Newbee! Rene Marie is all jazz all the time.
Wilson Audio, Talon, Rockport and B&W
I listened to all of these speakers, and more and chose the WP7s. But what on earth does that have to do with what YOU like?
Whats on your turntable tonight?
•Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - Dap Dippin' etc.: Brooklyn based funk outfit with FAT bass lines and great horn-based groove. Clearly inspired by JB but they also have their own greasy, funky thing going on. Sharon is a hurricane of a front wom...
