Taming/Damping Electrostat Backwave
SL3 likes having its back wave diffused rather than absorbed. It also needs a lot of room behind. If you don’t have that much room, SL3 is not the right speaker. You won’t be able to achieve good results by damping the back wave. The best way to di...
What's the funniest or dumbest thing you did?
The dumbest thing I did was that I sold my Linn LP-12 with Micro 505S and AKG P8ES 15 years ago. Fortunately, I did not sell my LP collection. I am now just starting to get back to analog again.
Wire vs. Vibration vs. Power Cond. is best?
Some additional thoughts:Nowadays, almost all high-end speakers come with code feet. And they are cheap. There is no reason not to use them.In my experiences, unless your equipment is on top of card boxes, vibration control devices give less impro...
Wire vs. Vibration vs. Power Cond. is best?
Cdc,Now I understand where you are coming from.I would say the room treatment would give you the most improvement. For example, a pair of tube traps behind the speakers can usually improve the sound far beyond any component upgrade for the same pr...
Vandersteen question.
I don't know if the Creek will drive Vandy well. The only way to be sure is to try it out. I suggest you bring the Creek with you on your audition trip. You might want to call the dealer in advance for their permission. And while you are there, li...
What are 6 feet going to do for me?
I don't know what magic that power cable can do but for $6000, you can get a state of the art turntable, tone arm, and cartridge. And I can guarantee that you will get much more enjoyment from that then from any $6000 power cable.
How do YOU justify this hobby?
Justify to whom? It is my hobby and I don't think there is need to justify my own enjoyment to myself.
How do the Martin Logan Ascents compare to the
The “force forward” technology is available in the more expensive Odyssey and Prodigy models, not in the Ascent.I too like the SL3 better than the Ascent. I feel the new ML models carry a kind of plastic tone that is unnatural, especially apparent...
Calling BAT amp/preamp owner
Heeengky,Thanks for sharing your results. It looks like I should retube my vk50se. How does the sovek tube sound compare to the NOS from BAT?
how to bi-amp and connection?
I have reservations about bi-amp with different types. First of all there are gain-matching problems. Your X250 will most likely have a different gain then your tube amp. Unless the tube amp has a gain control or you are using an external crossove...
Thank you Audiogoner's for your civilized attitude
Well Said. That is also the reason I frequent this board. Some people like to pick fight for entertainment and I am sure sooner or later some of them will wonder over here. When that happens I suggest we don’t response to their messages, no matte...
Speaker Cable for Vandy 3A Sigs - Suggestions
Richard Vandersteen told me Audioquest uses Vandy 5 to voice their cables. I did not ask him about 3A Signature but since it is very similar to model 5, you might want to borrow some Audioquests and give them a home trial.
What gear do Audio manufacturers use at home?
Go to this link for the equipment Gayle Sanders at Martin Logan uses.http://www.martinlogan.com/gayle_lab_review.html
Suggestions for a DAC
The 506 is very good. I don't know how you can improve it with a $600 DAC. You might get a different sound but not necessary better.
How hot is hot enough?
Please beware that Audioquest welded the connectors to their cables in most cases. Re-terminating with solders may degrade the quality of the connections.
