Ideas for making a soundproof box for MacMini?
The MacMini is very quiet. I can't hear mine more than a few inches away. If you can hear its fan from the listening chair, the noise is most likely caused by reflection from the back wall. Or if you put the mini inside a cabinet, the vibration ma...
Anyone tried the K2HD mastering CDs?
A friend of mine just lend me a copy of Anitphone Blues in K2HD. I already have the SACD version so I can do some comparisons tonight. One thing I noticed, for some reasons, the K2HD disc only has 11 tracks vs. 15 tracks in the SACD version; and tw...
turntable + fluorescent light = crackling speakers
I use a LED light (see picture in my system) to avoid noise. You might want to look into that.
Suggestions for amp/preamp path?
You will get more helpful suggestions if you can post the model of the Fisher as well as the rest of your system.
UPS on DC controlled tables?
I doubt it, Avliviero. DC regulator for motor control is very easy to do and inexpensive. The technology has been perfected for quite some time. There is no reason for manufacturer to put in subpar regulator. Unless you have a cheap TT and your AC...
UPS on DC controlled tables?
TT using DC motor already has DC voltage regulator built-in, that is how you adjust the speed of DC motor. There is absolutely no benefit to put a UPS in front of it. In fact, the dirty electricity generated by UPS will pollute the rest of your sy...
24/96 on PTECH P3A?
I don't use Media Monkey, not sure if it can burn DVD. On Mac, I use Toast Titanium from Roxio. It actually has an Music DVD format option and I can specify to use 24/96 PCM encoding, very easy to do. BTW, you also need to have a DVD player/transp...
24/96 on PTECH P3A?
It seems like you have burned the FLAC songs as data files. I don't think any CD transport can read that.To play 24/96 FLAC, you will need to burn them on DVD, DVD-A, or simply play them from a computer to your DAC.BTW, those HDTrack samples are u...
UPS on DC controlled tables?
Why do you want to put a UPS which generates dirty electricity, to feed your turntable? What do you expect to gain from it?
Help Anti Static Brush creates MORE static
Please make sure the ground wire from your arm/table is connected to your preamp/phono amp properly. In some situations, a falsely connected ground wire will not cause hum but static pops like what you just described instead.
Would you pay to audition speakers
If they are expensive speakers for in home audition, and they deliver the speakers to your home, unpack, set them up; than I think $500 is reasonable.
overseas: PS Audio600 or Power Plant Premier
PP-600 is very heavy. It will cost too much to ship oversea. I wouldn't do it if I were you.
Someone can better BAT? Or not?
My VK-50SE took more than 250 hours just to break in. I guess if those caps were so short-lived, I would never know how my BAT could sound like in prime.
Speaker/Equipment Placement
It is preferable but it is not a disaster if you do have something in between so long as it is not too tall and too close to the speaker to cause major reflection.
Cartridge too light for counterweight?
Ahochan, that protractor is just a round cardboard. I wouldn't trust it.
