Preamps for Atma-Sphere OTL Amplifiers I have a S30 (among many other amps) and pair it with a Shindo Vosne-Romanee. Pairing sounds wonderful to me.
Shindo lab pre amps Agree that the Vosne-Romanee is a special piece of equipment. IMO, Art Dudley's review late last year nailed it. I moved from the Masetto to the VR and the level of detail increased tremendously while the tonal quality became slightly darker, more...
Ocellia speakers and power I have Tonian Classic 12's with the PHY-12 inch Driver. The amplification will depend on your room and the type of music you like. I have used 45,2a3,300B,GM-70 SET's, a 15W Shindo Montille (EL-84), an Atma-sephere S30 OTL and a refurbed Dynaco ST...
Different between Shindo Masseto & Monbrison Pres I have a different take. I believe for the most part the Shindo preamps have a similar "house sound" but you basically get more as you move up the line. I first purchased a Masseto and moved up to the Vosne-Romanee. They both are clearly Shindo's ...
Best Pre with a built-n phono section? I've owned many preamps and have no desire to switch since I've owned a Shindo (other than upgrading to higher end Shindos). Expensive but worth it. Hand made and tuned by an Artisan who has been at his craft for over 3 decades.
Have 300b MB want a killer pair of Hi-Eff speakers I was unaware that he had passed. Thank you for the update. I also hope plans were made to keep the PHY product continuing in his absence.
Have 300b MB want a killer pair of Hi-Eff speakers Charles:My understanding is that since Tony is using a Supertweeter the X-over is in the neighborhood of 15Khz. It's seemless because the PHY is essentially running as a full range single driver with the supertweeter adding some sparkle on the ver...
Have 300b MB want a killer pair of Hi-Eff speakers Rsf507:In my case it was because I had the chance to demo the Tonians at a Trade show. Given the amount of $ PHY speakers cost, I could not justify buying one without listening to it first. Since Tony is based in Southern California and is the US ...
Have 300b MB want a killer pair of Hi-Eff speakers Yet another recommendation for a PHY based speaker. If you want true bass down to 38, you probably want to use a speaker with a 12" PHY. The Tonian Classic 12 fits the bill. There are other very good PHY based brands but I've always been drawn to ...
45 Amps Yes, for the last 7 or 8 years I've owned a 45 AMP. First one was Wavelength Geminia monoblocks and currently have a Yamamoto. You will need efficient speakers and it's probably not the ideal amp for large scale (Mahler or Bruckner)symphonies. Giv...
Audio Electronic Supply AES/Cary AE3 MkII preamp Just want to chime in and say the AE3 DJH is an excellent affordable preamp for those who want to experience what a nicely built tube preamp has to offer. It does not have a tone of bells and whistles but I consider it excellent value for the mone...
Preamp suggestions Get the entry level Shindo from a dealer. As you have additonal $, you can continue trading up the Shindo line as the dealer trade in credit is extremely generous. Very expensive but IMO worth every penny.
Tube Research Labs Dude vs. Shindo Labs preamps I'm a Shindo convert. Yep, they are not cheap (Darn Yen-$ conversion rate) but (and I know it sounds like a cliche), Shindo preamps just sound more like music to me than any other preamp I've tried. My Vosne-Romanee is the heart of my music system...
Shindo Monbrison better a RedWine Isabella? Enjoy the Monbrison. I currently have the Vosne-Romanee and it's a joy. It's so nice to finally get off the upgrade merry go round and spend time focusing on the what matters - the music.
Antique Sound Lab 805 DT SETs--WOW Congrats. A lot of people dismiss high powered SET amps but I like them just as much as the flea powered SET's. I had the same reaction when I received my GM-70 amp (38W). Sit back and enjoy. |
