Avalon Eidolon Diamond Are they really great?
Linkster: Cannot the Avalon Eidolons have more than one sibling? It is smaller and younger. Maybe the Ascendents are a younger sister instead. Quite demure but a pretty little thing.
Avalon Eidolon Diamond Are they really great?
I have heard them several times in the past few months. I cannot say how they would work with your equipment. But in an all Spectral setup they are a very fine dynamic speaker. They are holographic with tremendous soundstaging and imaging. The bas...

Bowbow: What does your definition of abstract and modern and classical encompass?
Classical fans, I need advice
Classical music:Schubert: late string quartets and cello quintet, perhaps the most sublime, intimate music there is. The Emerson String Quartet CD on DG is a fine recording and a tremendous performance.Brahms: the two string sextets, and all the q...
Tube Equipment: Gimmick?
JAX2: You are absolutely wrong about 8X10 vs 35mm:the 8x10 will give higher resolution, more pixels per square inch. You can blow up an 8X10 much, much larger than the best of the best 35mm. That is not true of pricing either, a Zone VII 8x10, cost...
Stereophile confirms new gear is getting worse....
hi all! The worst component of an audio system is the loudspeaker. It has the largest amount of nonlinear distortion, nearing 10% sometimes, at least 10 times the distortion of any electronics! Yet we condemn, the nonaccuracy of an amplifier? It i...
Wilson or Kharma
Besides how well it performs, you must take into account service. Will the speaker company or its distributor be around 5 years down the road when something goes wrong? How many distributors have some of the above mentioned changed hands? I can cal...
Which is better - Maggie 20.1 or Soundlab M-1?
Brian: I think youa re correct in your assertion about being discontinous, if the crossover point was midbass ataround 250hz like the Martin Logans. I was thinking more in the bass region of 60 hz or less.
Which is better - Maggie 20.1 or Soundlab M-1?
Duke: Does Sound Lab still offer the electrostatic bass panels? And for bass extension, what would be very interesting would be the Avant Garde BassHorns as subwoofers for either the Maggies or the Sound Lab. In general, you are correct about the ...
Arvo Pärt
Good to see someone else who likes contemporary classicalmusic! I have Tabla Rosa by Gidon Kremer with the KremerataBaltica ensemble. It is on the Nonesuch label, 79582. Gidon's later version is a much better recording than his previous recording....
Who has heard the new Avalon's?
Drubin: Both the Radian and the Eclipse are sealed designs; there is a port on the bottom of the Ascendant. Avalon speakers are not bright at all, so it might sound like the highs are rolled off or muted, but if you meter it out with a sound meter...
Who has heard the new Avalon's?
The Avalon Ascendant is their new entry level model. At $8000+, thy are not inexpensive. But at a 1/4 of the price of the Eidolon Diamond speakers, you hear 70-90% of their attributes. The soundstage was wide and deep with almost pinpoint imaging....
Who has heard the new Avalon's?
I will let everybody tomorrow; I am demoing them tonight with both Spectral and ARC
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
I heard the B&W N series at a NYC dealer while visiting my daughter at grad school. I did not listen to them for more than 5 minutes before I gave up on them. Their bass was boomy, the integration with the midrange was lumpy at best, and the h...
Deepest Bass in the Known Universe...
