Opinions on PS Audio Direct Stream DAC (Mk 1)
I seem to have turned a corner with my unit. I have made no changes yet (have a Morrow I2S cable on the way), but as of yesterday great things seem to be happening. I was afraid it was wishful thinking so I waited until today and I’m listening to ...
Opinions on PS Audio Direct Stream DAC (Mk 1)
I'm using a knock-off Nordost Gold PC that I've really liked in other applications but I'm also just using a standard HDMI cable (tho a pretty decent one) for the I2S connection, so that's a potential weak spot I can experiment with. XLRs to the a...
Opinions on PS Audio Direct Stream DAC (Mk 1)
@gavin1977 First impressions of PS Audio DS...It's definitely a serious DAC. I'm feeding it via I2S from an EverSolo DMP-A8, then the signal goes to my Mac tube headphone amp via XLRs. The DMP-A8 is being fed from a M1 Mac Mini which is running my...
Opinions on PS Audio Direct Stream DAC (Mk 1)
Well, I bit. If you're interested I would suggest you order soon. They're out of the black ones and (I think) the network cards. I wanted black but, emboldened by the above poster getting one for $1600 I offered $1500 for a silver one and they acc...

@jsalerno277 Where are the WyWires on sale for 40% off?
Looking for Sub to pair with Dynaudio Confidence 20s
As soix said, you need to be looking at 2 subs without question. I would drill down on both REL and Rythmik's websites. Solid choices from top to bottom. I have a pair of Rythmik G22's and absolutely love em. They're a dual-opposed 12" model. They...
Steely Dan
I saw them once at an amphitheater and they still sounded perfect. Maybe the most enjoyable concert of my life.
Recommendations for 7 channel amp
Buckeye Amps makes 8-channel models that will easily fit your budget. People rave about them. I personally would prefer to buy a trio of Purifi Eigentakt's (he only makes these in 1-3 channel models).
Planar headphones
@soix is absolutely correct. The HE1000 V2 (Stealth) is the sweet spot of the HifiMan range. They originally sold for $3K and are now a steal at $1399. I loved mine so much that I stretched and got some Susvaras. It wasn't until they were fully br...
Streamer Selection - Thoughts Requested Please!
My only advice is to ignore the advice to "save your money for a DAC upgrade". I had a Yggy LiM and regret selling it. It plays in a league well above it's price point. It's absolutely up to the standards of any of the streamer options you're cons...
Rant: PSA to builders, housewives, and general complaint
We had the exact same issue the last time we bought 22 years ago. A big factor in the house we bought was that it did not have this "forced" TV location. A few years ago we decided we were ready to go and looked for a new house for a full year an...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
Currently, no, but we're about to get started on a new house with a dedicated media room. BUT, I'm using some pretty good headphones (HE1000 V2) and the Susvara's I have coming are fantastic headphones that normally retail for $6K, so I don't thin...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
The volume control turned out to be what tipped the Okto over the Yggdrasil. There’s very little difference in sound between them. If anything, the Yggy may have a touch more warmth, but it’s not enough of a difference to get me to forgo the volum...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
Well, it's already getting better. Even with just a few more hours on it last night the ear fatigue issue was nearly gone. Then today I realized I was making a mistake by also incorporating a new AES cable at the same time as the new DAC. I've had...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
I finally got my Okto stereo DAC today. Took nearly 4 weeks and they were supposedly in stock. I realize it's very early to be making assessments, it's only been on for a few hours, but so far, I'm a bit disappointed. The clarity is certainly ther...
