Best DAC for my situation...Read on! The Benchmark DAC has excellent output and excellent volume control especially the XLR outputs which are very powerful. So powerful you may have to install the internal jumper resistors to reduce the output to an acceptalble level for your power a...
Best DAC for my situation...Read on! +1 Benchmark but I would try it without the C48 and at 1600 used I would go higher and grab the DAC3 as it is their latest model.
Directionality of wire Maybe it's just me but does anyone else notice it's almost always the most uh, obstinate repetitive salesmen, and no, I won't mention any names, who claim they hear it for perfectly good reasons (self interest)?
Harbeth M30.1 vs B&W CM10 s2 For your taste in music the Harbeth are a fantastic choice. They have one on the world's best tweeters (Excel Millenium) and Harbeth mids are to die for. Not the last word in bass but miles better than the badly engineered B&W.
Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K) I have not seen a good set of measurements for Paradigm Persona 3F but they do appear to be well engineered. The crossover at 2.4KHz is actually close to the right place for this three way design (which has a large 7 inch midrange) which is a mir...
Which Speaker Manufacturers (Besides ATC or PCM Feature Large Soft Dome Mid? Linn and Ruark
Which Speaker Manufacturers (Besides ATC or PCM Feature Large Soft Dome Mid? Neumann use ATC I think. PMC use two versions the Volt clone of the ATC super mid and a vifa/scanspeak 3inch fabric dome which has been used in a few other model of speaker. The problem with this type mid is that it is hard to build (double spider)...
Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K) @vermeer Active ATC are slightly better than passive. KEF or TAD is a good choice too. I like the Harbeth mid and the Millenium Excel tweeter they use - among the best mid range. Their thin walled cabinets means the bass is somewhat of a matter of...
Advantages of beryllium? @randy-11 Interesting link. I think they sum it up very well. Be is better in the very top octave than Aluminium or Titanium (10 to 20 KHz)Note that on the plots Be is not necessarily the best from 3 to 10KHz (the really important range musically ...
Advantages of beryllium? @kosst_amojan Obviously some implementations are better than other. My statement pertains to the problem of lack of internal damping in most metallic drivers (magnesium being perhaps a notable exception). I count 5 resonances on the Focal Aria twe...
Advantages of beryllium? Here is a waterfall plot just for the Seas Excel Millenium fabric dome tweeter.http://www.diyspeakers.net/snippets.org/ldsg.snippets.org/graphics/seas/e006w.gif
Advantages of beryllium? @mmeysarosh The KEF R700 does measure well but the tweeter still has some hash and is not nearly as clean as the Seas Excel Millenium tweeter - see the outstanding lack of resonances (much better than any metal dome) in the waterfall plot for thi...
Advantages of beryllium? Highly rigid and light but poor internal damping. Personally I don’t like the splashy sound of drivers of this type design (metal and highly rigid). They have great bandwidth that makes for impressive measured performance but I find the sound is "...
