best digital set up 2006
On the contrary, there have not been huge improvements in digital...a tried and true CD player from ten years ago (using a format that is more than 25 years old) can still compete with the latest and greatest. SACD is not succesful as the improvem...
Bookshelves & Rooms
The best place to start is the rear wall behind your listening position (diffusion and bass absorption). Sharp cabinet edges should be avoided within about 3 feet from the front baffle of your speakers (edge diffraction). I would keep the side wal...
Low level listening
A good speaker should play well at very low and very high levels - so I would agree wth Duke. Although this kind of speaker is very expensive and is typically used in studio control rooms where it is crtical that the tonal balance remains unaffect...
how can a line cord affect frequency response ?
Dpac,Have you tried a "swifter" - IMHO it works better than spray and wash - the ionic charge picks up all unwanted vibrations....just remember to place them on your head while listening and change the pad every hour. Chepaest acpustic treatment o...
how can a line cord affect frequency response ?
Eldartford,Your river analogy is very good but what happens upstream of the audio component is all very criticial. As per Ridgestreet, there is a coloration on all the rest of the chain from the foundation up; the power supply gets modulated by al...
Have you seen any CABLE measurement tests?
Pabelson,Thanks for adding some clarity to all the confusion and misinformation about cables.
Help Me Explain Power Cables to my Guitar Friends
If the power supply and power cord in your friends guitar amplifier is appropriately designed and sized then I am afraid your friends are most probably right.
speaker break in volume level
Break in means that the response drifts over time. Any cone material or surround material that is unstable over time, in a manner enough to effect audible sound, is probably not such a great choice of material for a speaker. If it drifts after seve...
Corner speaker placement
You will excite all room axial modes in the extreme LF bass. In the 125 to 350 Hz range you may get some suckout or cancellations from rear wall relfections. You will also get reflections off the side walls which can also hurt the mid and treble r...
Military Spec Nuclear Shielded Speaker Cable?
The description sounds impressive but I don't think shielded speaker cables are necessary unless you have a big RF noise problem or very long speaker cable runs along side unshielded power cables (such as air conditioning power lines). As for nois...
Amp for harder music with lots of sounds.
Most any SS amp with around 150 WPC should be enough. Those small woofers probably can't take a lot more power than that without sounding overly distorted or risking a failure.PMC use Bryston for their active versions...why not go for Bryston...
Music out there with good bass
Soul Vaccination - Tower of Power Live (Good Live bass)Hommage to Duke - Dave Grusin - (entire album has lots of bass)Thriller - Michael Jackson - Billie JeanOh Mercy - Bob Dylan - Man in the Long Black Cold (a lot of texture to the bass here)Anot...
Wilson W/P 5.1 vs B&W N802
I find Wilson more harmonic sounding in the bass than B&W. I would call the B&W more accurate but many prefer the warmer sound of Wilson (as many prefer a tube amp)......so it depends what you like...both are, of course, very good speakers.
