IMAGE PROBLEMS VOCALS OFF CENTER
If you have swapped interconnects (between source and power amp) and you have (in a separate test) swapped speakers with their respective cables (left channel to right side and right channel to left side) then you have eliminated your system as th...
Longer Power Cords Sound better?
Clearly, even in audio, size does matter.
Bloated speakers/weight wise
My mains tip the scales at 142 LBS for each speaker. Weight wise this is rather ungainly. Heavy speaker usually equals bigger box, bigger magnets and heavier braced damped cabinets. This is all good but I think you hit diminishing returns after ab...
Speaker Height?
Sure does... too low and you risk to knock over the beer can or wine glass... an essential part of the experience.
New Eldar CD Live at the Blue Note
Yeah this has some of the best audio engineers behind this (and the artist is a prodigy). I believe Doug Sax did the mastering and he has an excellent reputation.Just added this to my list of CD's on order! Thanks for the tip!
Can DAC placement cause CD player skipping?
DAC should always be below the CD player...in fact as a general rule audio components in a chain should always be mounted such that the earliest source is highest and the final output is lowest. (For obvious reasons, as gravity will assist in an u...
Plasma vs LCD help, which is better?
I second Dtsag comments...Plasma still has the edge (although LCD is indeed catching up) and Panasonic has best value performance in my mind.
World Cup of Audio
D_Edwards,You have no fancy cable or tweaks....shame on you. Nothing has a chance of winning a vote without glowing tubes, thick cables supported by power line isolators, spikes for speakers, pads for components, a turntable with a platter sized t...
Tyler Acoustics PD-80's arrived
Any pics of your system?
Long interconnect or short Speaker Cables
There is no right answer. In all probability, there will only be a very subtle difference in either scenarie.... most likely this difference will be inaudible. So go with whatever setup is most convenient.
Newbie looking for system suggestions
I agree with Bojack. If you budget 80% of the cost for expensive CD player, amp, preamp and costly cables and then combine this with $1500 speakers....with careful selection you will have an excellent system but you will miss out on a whole level ...
So how's it going with HD DVD?
I have two HD sets at home and the difference between ordinary TV and HD is significant, however, normal DVD and HD is not such a big improvement.Sports is where HD excels...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
Seriously...no Edison's or Victors?Check out this really old stuff...http://www.talkingmachines.com/
contradictory communication
Since what you hear is a combination of factors I would suggest that you cannot totally separate anything.....warm and transparency are different as Onhwy61 correctly points out but my guess is they are also related in the way the overall sound is...
This should be controversial....hearing tests...
I read somewhere that fanatical audiophiles will sleep hanging upside down during the day and venture out only when it is quiet, at night.
