Bass--How much is too much?
What does your neighbor's wife think of your bass in her house? Or more importantly what does your wife think?
the paradox of accurate speakers
p.s. my system is better than yours! but Bob doesn't care even if yours does sound great (no doubt it does), because Bob's sounds good too AND, to top it off, Bob's is WAY bigger than both you and MrTennis and mine combined!! LOL ;-)
the paradox of accurate speakers
Well, all I can say is that Dr. Floyd Toole and many other Acoustic Engineers with University Degrees in Acoustic Physics and many with PHD's and many members of the AES would be disappointed to learn from this thread that they are completely wast...
Why so expensive??
If you can afford to buy this stuff, most likely you are buying it for the looks and the good sound is just a perk (IMHO, of course). Agreed. The big effort goes into industrial design. The other challenge is to market and sell perhaps only 50 mo...
Rush in 5.1 surround
C of S was still part of the transition to a true RUSH sound, IMHO. A journey they started and completed with the polished and complex arrangements in Xanadu using synthesizers ....the final RUSH sound of their OWN had arrived on Farewell to Kings...
whistling in the ears
My wife suffers from this. She has found that caffeine has nothing to do with it. She says it is never a problem at home, and mainly occurs outside or in the mall and most often in summer. Her solution is a heavy over coat and a long skirt down to...
Movies that featured High End equipment
Check this out.If you look very carefully you might see a Neve VR Legend console, Mana Acoustic stands, DH ceramic cones, Shakti pads, Golden Sound absorptive mats, ATC main monitors...
Bass--How much is too much?
IMHO what differentiated them was not db level but speed of the leading edge of the notes. What Newbee describes is EXACTLY what you tend to get from an accurate subwoofer. It allows you to clearly discern different bass instruments as the timbre...
Bass--How much is too much?
I keep asking myself if my set-up now with loads of bass which i can feel is wrong It depends....organ music, Black eyed peas, hip hop, rap and dance all have bass you can often feel. If you are physically feeling the bass on all forms of music t...
the paradox of accurate speakers
do all so-called accurate speakers sound the same ? Yes accurate speakers do sound very close...not perfectly the same (that would mean they were perfect) but very close. There are a great many "so-called" accurate speakers (you can call anything...
Electrolytic capacitors
You are worrying way too much about this. Just enjoy the music. This is the normal situation for audiophiles - we worry about everything even what bit of wire is used between items.
Electrolytic capacitors
Get the seller to power it up for 24 hours. If they want to pay to have it done on a variac, great. If they want to gamble, that's on them too.Great idea if you can get this done for you....but then it is no longer a factory sealed box - so the s...
most accurate loudspeakers....
Gregm,Good point. I think that an "accurate" speaker-system is capable of creating a NEW musical event in the room, BASED on the original recorded event." is a nice way to put it.I also think that Donald's statement,1. Most accurate at creating ...
How isolated is your hi-fi?
I agree that some environments look pretty cold and uninviting. A semi-religious shrine of sorts => cold, austere and meticulously laid out with gear with no sign of life.Other shared rooms look great and comfortable until you notice giant spea...
Electrolytic capacitors
You need to reform the caps before powering up (to reduce the risk of them blowing up when powered up the first time)....after four years of storage this is a significant risk. These kind of caps tend to dry out after many years - so yes, in theory...
