A/D input levels with 24-bit - need to max out?
You could be using only the lowest 10 bits of your 24 bit hardware, and that would certainly degrade a 16 bit source. It would only degrade if the signal has more dynamic range than can be properly represented by 10 bits. Of if by playing the sig...
Stereophile Article - Holt telling it like it is.
Funny, that BBC dip thing. IMHO it works very well in closely recorded, often multi-miked and mixed, music. Sort of balances out and can sound a bit more realistic. What it does do is make the music sound more distant - as if your seat is far bac...
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
Genelec 1032As and a 1094 Sub. An awesome setup. Of the really high end pro studio monitors Genelec seems to have less crossover to audiophile market than ATC - not sure why. ATC, Quested and Genelec invaded the US starting some twenty five years...
Help me with my movie selections
Dear Frankie - for some reason I found this movie really earnest and touching. Bring a box of tissues...
What do you use for isolation?
I use very thick MDF shelves (several layers) and maple facing. Enclosing stuff in cabinets really helps a lot compared to leaving things out in the open...much of the higher frequency vibrations are airborne. Leaving things out or on the floor is...
In Wall Subwoofers in 2-Channel room ?
In theory - yes. Worth worrying about - NO.
A/D input levels with 24-bit - need to max out?
Don't worry. There is NO difference on the digital side. Your 24 bits are way more than enough to capture all the dynamic range from your source. It does not matter if you digitize at lower levels - it changes nothing in the accuracy of what you r...
Digital Playback Comparison
CD's can't have jitter....there is no timing information on a CD...just data samples....in order to get jitter you need some kind of clock or a clock signal. The is No clock on a CD.......these audio urban legends go against all logic. The jitter ...

why not acknowledge that electronics and speakers are flawes and attempt to voice one's stereo system consistent with one's sonic preferences ? Sure....but isn't this akin to throwing in the towel and giving up on the pursuit of an ideal ? Medioc...
Any ideas in speaker choices would be great
Try second hand Energy Pro 22 or 22.3...this will bring your soundstage more forward (not so recessed in the mid range)....it won't cost you a cent as you can find these second hand for the same price as your DQ10. Honestly, I can't think of much ...

Is it me or people making too much out of Atmashperes' comments? I was interested to learn about the Sound Labs....surely that was worthwhile. I enjoyed Macrojacks anecdote post too - great info on the TT and Tanoys.I think a very messy room and ...
Woofer on top?
This was always Missionaries position but it works quite well either way.
What's that buzz, tell me what's a happening...
Perhaps you are simply over driving it...this is after all a small woofer and low frequencies take huge amounts of excursion on a small woofer? It may also be a lose dust cap or perhaps the driver wire is touching the woofer cone when driven hard....
Pink Floyd best CDs soundwise
Try to get the EMI Harvest CD release done for the UK....this will be closest to your original Vinyl.Since you only want CD layer and you clearly like the original Vinyl - I would stay away from more recent remasters. I am lucky enough to own the ...
Rives PARC parametric equalizer
You are right that with a digital parametric this could be a concern, but with analog circuitry it's negligible. Excellent point. This worried me as I use a digital parametric, as far as I can tell from literature it has a 20 microsecond delay (a...
