Good Country recordings
I'll add Christina McBride and Lyle Lovett albums.
HELP
The amp you have should indeed be ok. Before you spend another $400 bucks. I'd investigate as it may be the speakers in your room versus what you heard at the dealer.
Studio/Performance Amps for High-End Systems?
Is there something I'm missing here? Amps for studios tend to be very precise. Amps for high end audiophiles tend to be "softened".Crown and Bryston are are simply excellent amps but the harshness you get with precision is not necessarily what do...
Fleetwood Mac Rumours reissue
I have TOTO Essentials CD and it is mildly overcompressed - it still sounds ok but the 80's Grammy winning sound ain't quite there after Joseph M. Palmaccio squashed it.Doug Sax did a good job on Aerosmith's box CD set of their first three ( this ...
Fleetwood Mac Rumours reissue
Disco,Your description would have been my guess. I have not heard it but generally new remasters are additionally compressed to give the "hot" sound that is common today. At low levels this will give the brief impression of more "edge, attack and d...
Soundlabs and magnepan mix on front stage?????
FYI: Gordon Holt uses active ATC SCM 50's - he loved and owned SoundLabs for many years so perhaps you should look into ATC. They would be much more practical for an HT setup and are popular in studios for 5.1 monitoring.I am not knocking your ado...
white noise from tweeters
I dont know about any of you, but I feel that true Hi Fi components should not hiss, hum, or create these types of distractions. Is that too much to ask? Some people feel that way - others actually like the snap crackle pop and hiss of Vinyl and ...
Digital Convergence/Comments on Retail
If Audioengine is your idea of good sound (nice cheap but pretty lousy bass but good as entry level student speaker) then you really need to get some serious active speakers rather than toys for kids.My first choice as a very high end active speak...
No bass in the Proac Response 3
Give it time - better bass is often less resonant and in your face than what you typically get from boom boom tizz speakers...
Importance of Center Channel in small room
Funny though some people on the other forums HATE center channels and always prefer phantom. Yes indeed - a large number of audio studio professionals do not like center channels - although not many will admit it, after all multi-channel mixing i...
Which speakers will fill 5,000 cubic ft coherently
Thanks for giving feedback - I would only add that it might be wise NOT to modify the SP Techs or alternatively make sure you have a kit to make them standard again...just so that you keep your resale options open and also the option to move house...
How do I "compromise" speaker placement
I agree with Bob;1) Common sense - use rule of thumb configurations2) Perform in room measurememts 3) Listen and decide what works best for you (usually a compromise is needed anyway as there is no "perfect position" for all aspects of the sound)W...
Live infectious funk jams....quality recordings
Henryhk,Thanks for the suggestion - I've ordered it.
How do I "compromise" speaker placement
Not possible. 3 feet off the wall in a 11’2” width will have the mains less than 4 feet apart. The speakers are about a foot in width. Well just do the best you can in terms of distance from side walls and also toe them inwards to reduce the magn...
How do autotransformers affect sound?
Shadorne...I believe that transformers usually have feedback around them (the "ultralinear" configuration is the common example) which is necessary for flat frequency response and also reduces distortion. Coils in a crossover network are open loo...
