Which speakers will fill 5,000 cubic ft coherently
Thanks for giving feedback - I would only add that it might be wise NOT to modify the SP Techs or alternatively make sure you have a kit to make them standard again...just so that you keep your resale options open and also the option to move house...
How do I "compromise" speaker placement
I agree with Bob;1) Common sense - use rule of thumb configurations2) Perform in room measurememts 3) Listen and decide what works best for you (usually a compromise is needed anyway as there is no "perfect position" for all aspects of the sound)W...
Live infectious funk jams....quality recordings
Henryhk,Thanks for the suggestion - I've ordered it.
How do I "compromise" speaker placement
Not possible. 3 feet off the wall in a 11’2” width will have the mains less than 4 feet apart. The speakers are about a foot in width. Well just do the best you can in terms of distance from side walls and also toe them inwards to reduce the magn...
How do autotransformers affect sound?
Shadorne...I believe that transformers usually have feedback around them (the "ultralinear" configuration is the common example) which is necessary for flat frequency response and also reduces distortion. Coils in a crossover network are open loo...
Harmony Remote Control
It works but software crashes from time to time and you have to be careful to keep it pointed in the IR receivers direction for about 5 seconds to operate a full HT setup...Cable Box, DVD player, AMP, and TV. The pointing issue is a severe limitat...
Pre- output impedance for ss input impedance 10K
You want the lower output impedance pre - this will work best. I agree with Mitch.
How do autotransformers affect sound?
Interesting reading on the obvious merits of adding an autotransformer in the path of the signal. I have question: Why bother using "air core" inductors in crossovers in high end speakers? (Rather than the typical iron core arrangement, as in a tr...
Any bluegrass fans?
Try the Waifs - you may be pleasantly suprised - they are a gem from downunder.
Are planar speakers less prone to room interaction
Room interaction is much greater for panels due to the forward and rear radiation. They are also more challenged to create the higher SPL's needed in large spaces..Your best bet would be a narrowly focused Appolito type design such as a Dunlavy SC...
How do I "compromise" speaker placement
Rule of thumb - speakers placed well out into the room will excite less room modes. Keep away from side walls (at least three feet). Sit at around 40% or room length (do not sit with back against wall - very very bad) Subs are best well out into t...
Importance of Center Channel in small room
Center channel is needed for off axis listening - especially far outside the sweetspot. If you sit in the sweetspot then you are actually better off without one of those horizontally mounted center channels under the screen. Think about it - would...
KEF 103/4 loudspeakers; any comments
You can't go wrong with a classic provided you can refurb it for little cost.
Cable update question
a substantial upgrade? Honestly, I doubt it would be "substantial" unless there was something wrong with your old interconnects...poor oxidized or worn contacts or a loose ground wire or something like that. Are you experiencing issues or degrada...
