Great systems in butt-ugly rooms
I'm with Tvad - who cares what the room looks like. However, placing mega expensive great gear in ridiculously small spaces or shoved in a corner with no acoustic treatments whatsoever and listening chair up against a wall does seem a bit of a was...

Joey: It should be the "World's Most Deadly Joke" sketch. Heheh Nah - the most deadly "dead" joke sketch is this one....and now back to regular programming! (Sorry Chris I just found your initial question that does not even mention which amps you...
Do I really want the musicians in my room?
Buy a cable switch box and use both => you can switch musicicans in and out of the room at will! However, move quickly, as this new speaker cable property (in room/out of room) is soon to be patented by Monster Cable. Once this happens then ever...

Cables Are Crazy, what do you think?
You will run into many in life that choose to remain ignorant, rather than admit they are wrong. Exactly my point. Both points of view see the other as ignorant and there is a simple explanation for the divergence. The scientist likely knows enoug...
Cables Are Crazy, what do you think?

an amp without "electronic" sound
I'd go for a the tried and proven Class A design with modest levels of NFB. However, if you want warmth then tubes is the only way to go (but you know that).
Studio/Performance Amps for High-End Systems?
EMMLabs is used by as James Guthrie (Pink Floyd sound engineer). Here is a list EMM Labs UsersI agree about Peavy and others you mention - these are high power but low quality stuff and have a "PA" sound.
midrange forwardness
So why would the Soundlab sound relatively louder in the treble with a solid state amplifier? It won't.It will give you more bass (where impedance rises) - so if anemic bass is your problem then a tube will help. If you want more midrange then a ...
Best used floorstanding / full range around $1000
Energy Veritas 2.8 used is up there in terms of good sound and good value.
