When did Musical Fidelity start making stuff in...
Quite frankly it is irrelevant the Chinese sourced gear is just as good as products made elsewhere. Try to explain that to young mothers and those with pets. Plastic should be used to make speakers and toys - not food!As for me, I like my Europea...
2-way speaker with best bass
If you'd like to hear for yourself how Pat McGinty managed his tradeoff in the Shearwater design, you're welcome. Drop me a line if you come to Montreal. Thanks! I'm not heading that way anytime soon but I appreciate the offer.
2-way speaker with best bass
This article may be relevant(I actually posted it on a subwoofer thread too) - it is all about trade-offs and what do you call "better" - is "better" more accuracy (good transients) or is it just copious bass (wow that thing makes lots of bass at ...
Two Subwoofers... Comb Effect
There is a 180 degree phase shift in the bass phase anyway - which happens across resonance. So the whole thing is debatable however but purists will argue that even the 180 degree shift is bad - so it is best to get resonance way down and ultimat...

Zigon,Get David Grusin Homage to Duke - you will not be disappointed!
Rives Audio Consulting - Advice?
Yes. Absolutely.
what kills soundstage depth?
A dipole type radiation pattern will increase your sensation of depth due to midrange energy being reflected off the back wall.
Two Subwoofers... Comb Effect
Most subs have a 12 dB per octave lowpass filter, and so will give away their presence and not blend well because they allow too much lower midrange energy to pass through. That is what I have - 12 db/octave. That may explain why I prefer it up f...
grills on or off on evolution acoustic speakers?
Either way is fine - as far as I can tell from photos it will not matter - whatever looks nicest.
2-way speaker with best bass
Pubul57,Yes I was. I must admit that when it comes to the Merlin VSM though and I did take a look today - they are exceptionally good - great example of getting everything right in a two-way - you and Tobias picked out a real winner there! About a...
Vienna Acoustics sounded terrible at Magnolia
Roc_Doc,All I can say is I don't like the measurements on these speakers (those that I have seen published and not just the wild impedance swings). Not to say that they cannot possibly sound awesome because many people adore them - they surely do ...
2-way speaker with best bass
Tobias,Agreed. Firstly let me say this is an awesome speaker. You are talking prodigious bass in a two way. Extremely impressive. However, do you not notice the "hole" in the midrange - especially around 1 to 3 Khz? For sure this kicks butt in the...
what kills soundstage depth?
Jimmy,The equilateral triangle is most useful for mixing or mastering. If you want a more 'realistic' presentation then I prefer speakers facing forward (not toed in) and about 2 feet apart for 3 foot listening, 4 feet apart for 6 foot back listen...
Will you check this out
Bill Moyers interview with Joseph Campbell is an eye opener too. We are all connected. Joseph Campbell realized that "God" was just a metaphor for that which trancends all levels of intellectual thought. A very clever man - he saw the common threa...
2-way speaker with best bass
Eldartford - good point - reasonable SPLs in the bass means large woofers - large woofers are ill suited to producing midrange - this is why a two way system ends up as a near-field or life style type trade off. They are the most common speaker on...
