"Breathing" of the air
As far as "breathing", in vocals and particularly reed instruments, like sax, my experience leads me towards 2 and 3 inch soft dome mids first These type drivers are well damped and yet extremely light - so you get very little "ringing" or colora...
Benchmark DAC-1, Lavry DA10, Altmann Attraction
The posters who say that is not the case have gone to the time, trouble and expense of upgrading cables. You are quite correct I did not go to all this time, trouble and expense. It would also appear to be the case according to a Benchmark Engine...
"Breathing" of the air
BTW - added "air" from manipulation of the recording by the playback system or harmonic resonance or reverb etc. can be pleasant too. So more "air" can also be used to describe equipment that adds its own signature to the recording.
"Breathing" of the air
It is interesting that Shadorne mentions Air around 7 to 12khz. What about the Air content below 7 khz. There certainly is lot of air moved at low freqs- low, mid and high bass and even lower to mid mids. Indeed. I may be misunderstanding Chris. ...

Shadorne,I've read you condescending posts before. You don't know everything and others have had have had different experiences than yours. Just trying to help. In the past, I have also been fooled into buying expensive items that actually did no...
"Breathing" of the air
Air is around 7 to 12 Khz - if you have a system that boost this then you get more "air" - alternatively if you have a speaker with a recessed midrange or "midrange scoop" then you get more air and more bass (boom boom tizz).IMD distortion, digita...
why is it that on some records, sound terrible??
Inner groove runs slower - it is not as good - it is not called LP = Long Play for nothing - some compromises were involved in getting LP to work. When I collected vinyl my favorites where the 12" 45 RPM - better sound - more dynamics and better c...

benchmark and apogee
Jeff,What you report about the Benchmark DAC1 is very consistent with what I observed and many others have reported. To my ears it happens to work well with my speakers so I am happy with a less "full" sound. I have not heard anything quite as det...
Which Digital processor/equalizer ?
My bass sounds/feels quite authentic. The 'Sheffield Drum and Track Disc' and my son playing his drum kit make great references. BTW: That particular mic, and of course- it's box, were purchased about 5 months ago. I use the Behringer PEQ below 9...

Cerrot, Mb9061, and Mjcmt,I suggest you report your findings to Benchmark engineer Elias Gwinn. You will need more than anecdotal evidence though, as everyone knows the power of suggestion or the "placebo" effect. The people that designed and built...
I need help putting together a budget system
You control the volume with the pre-amp not the speakers. For an office you should also consider NHT S00 and NHT M00 - great desktop sound.
Rain-X as CD Enhancement Treatment
Shadorne, Consider changing the entire set up because a low budget treatment improves sound? Absolutely! I find it totally unacceptable that digital equipment should perform so badly. Analog has major problems in this area (must be clean and even...
Speakers sound best facing wall????
He said Amar cupped his hands over his mouth and asked Paul Klipsch how he was doing and Paul turned toward the wall and said he was doing ok.. Good story but not sure it was true. It is hardly surprising that Paul turned round fast when Amar cup...
Merrill tables
Nah he was absolutely serious - he's talking about one of those newfangled TT's - no belt drive - no direct drive - you know with the latest crystal clocker - dilithium crystals to be precise - the latest warp drive TT!
