What speakers work well against a wall
Wide speakers with a large baffle will work best. To get really close to a back wall check out these...https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/6257#&gid=1&pid=3 Horns work well too. The importance is to minimize the frequencies going backward...
Dac Technology Mature?

Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
Yes - do test the Harbeth’s loud to see if they can hold together or if the balance falls apart and dullness sets in.
SQ lacking
It depends on the speaker design and manufacturing I guess and whether they are broken in at the factory QC where some manufacturers do extreme stress tests.
Dac Technology Mature?
@bacshishCongrats of first post and welcome. I cannot agree with you more. I am happy with the transparency of my Benchmark DAC 3. I would be happy with any number of leading DACs - they all sound really great. Leaps and bounds better than the mid...
SQ lacking
Yes be careful. Hi-end means muffled and euphonic old school sound to many audiophiles - easily distinguished from modern accurate sound. There is a happy medium between warm euphonic sound and accuracy and clarity - you just need to find that - o...
Harbeth 40.1 vs Sonus Faber Olympia III
+1 Harbeth 40.1 - no contest.
Natural sweet spot in your system.
Probably mostly the speakers. Soundstage has hundreds of speaker measurements showing large deviations from linearity even on SOTA speakers.
Is Speaker design evolution stagnant
Check out ATC. They design and build all their drivers from scratch. They design and build all of their active speaker amplifiers with discrete parts.
Black backgrounds and such
Blackness is a very good description. Just like on your TV. If you can output true black or improve black level then some low level subtleties will be visible. It isnt the same as hiss. Hiss can be ok - provided it is just random noise. I think of...
Dac Technology Mature?
Yes. Quite mature. There is now an effort to go backwards towards 20 year old DAC technology like R-2R. This is a sure sign that the market is saturated with mature products. There are simply are a lot of good DACs out there.
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
@geoffkait    I don’t concede anything. Poor contacts are probably responsible for the majority of problems encountered. Yes it can occur in internal connector pins and power cords too. None of this is new. My point was about the pseudoscience of ...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
@geoffkait Good electrical contact in cheap audio connectors is indeed a common problem. Good news is that I agree with you.You can call this “micro-arcing” but that is not the problem - the problem is making good contact on plugs with poor toler...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
Apologies to all the tin-foil hat folks! I have news. Sorry but micro-arcing doesn’t exist in normal well designed and properly functioning stereo usage at all.The required voltages necessary to break down typically used insulators, air and compon...
akm4497 vs. ess9038pro
The ESS chip measure the best. So there is nothing better right now. That said, it is the implementation by the DAC designer that is far more important. A slightly inferior chip will sound a lot better in a good DAC design than the best chip in a ...
