The Alan Parson's Project
If you like I Robot then you must get Jean Michel Jarre Oxygen - similar synth extravaganza type stuff. Turn the lights and enjoy :-)
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker
Try Maceo Parker Advanced Funk from School's In and see which you prefer. This CD is lush sounding and smooth but at thee same time very dynamic and revealing. Great cornet solo and awesome B3 and with Jamal Thomas on drums it is real tight. Kind ...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker
I guess Garbage must have sounded bad with your ultra-revealing ATC actives. Yes - it sounds best in the car or not cranked too loudly (like Red Hot Chilli's Arctic Monkeys and other compressed modern music) - I do like Shirley Manson though! Gre...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker
Wow! If you can make Garbage sound really good and not harsh then you must have a very forgiving preamp that would not resolve the heavy clipping. I like the band but the sound is bad, IMHO.Here is a quote from Rolling Stone: "Compression is a nec...
Speaker Placement, Listening Room Design
Try Alton Everest or John Sayers.
Recommend speakers for a restaurant sound system
Jkeniley,I still don't get it. You want a high performance system for very low cost (8 speakers and subs etc etc. no less with audiophile quality but industrial ruggedness and all for mere 5 to 7K!!). It does not exist. Panels would be just plain ...
Interconnect Inductance vs. Capacitance
High capacitance can be a tough load for consumer grade gear - best to stick to short runs or low capacitance IC's. You can lose dynamics and in some extreme cases you get distortion.
It's Hammond B3 Organ Day
Some amazing B3 playing on School's In! by Maceo Parker....try Advanced Funk and the organ playing is just about as funky as it gets...Morris Hayes is on keyboard.
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
Don't worry some people are more susceptible to the power of suggestion that is all.
What do you see as the downside of tubes?
Loose bass, forward midrange, bright glassy upper mids/lower highs, rolled off upper highs. Variable performance. Unreliable. High maintance. Difficult to get replacement parts. When they break, they offer the potential to break other links in th...
Scaled back to my computer need speakers
NHT M00 and S20 would be a good choice.
DAC with the best midrange ever.....
Rtn1 may have hit the nail on the head. You may want to explore tube power amps or at least a tube DAC but a tube power amp will probably make the biggest difference in the direction you seek.
Room treatment requirement differences
Some of the planar speaker makers wanted the rear wall reflective, Apogee recommended this for my Duetta Sigs. Agreed - provided you have the space a reflecting surface is fine. Research has clearly shown that early or near reflections will not i...
The Great Speaker Quest
I got the message you want dynamic (like horns) but do not sound honky like horns and you want small with tight accurate bass (no bloat). You want to be able to move around and the sound should stay the same (no change in presentation or tonality)...
Room treatment requirement differences
Unless you can get the MG's well out into the room then you might need some absorption/diffusion behind them (for the rear reflection). Otherwise treatments will probably be similar (for bass)
