Can I get some Love for Thiel CS 2.2s?
I don't know if I can answer precisely enough to be of any help but from my experience the ProAcs had a more well-defined placement of the instruments and voices so that the sound stage seemed more realistic and deeper, more three-dimensional. The...
Can I get some Love for Thiel CS 2.2s?
AudiofowlI replaced them with ProAc Studio 150's and a subwoofer. I needed speakers that dominated the space a little less, both sonically and physically.
What's the best CD/DVD player under $1000?
One option would be do add a high-quality external DAC to the Denon. I'm using a Rotel 1060 DVD as a transport for CD's with a Benchmark DAC-1 and it's a very nice combination.
Can I get some Love for Thiel CS 2.2s?
I had the 2.2's for a year or so and powered them with a McCormack DNA-0.5 Deluxe. I thought it was a great combination, the Thiels definitely need an amp with some reserve power to take advantage of how dynamic they can be.
Amps only power on one side
This is kind of a long shot but if you have an internal short in either the speaker or speaker cables on one side you could have blown out the same channel on both amps when you tried them one after the other. I mention this possibility because it...
The basics of PC audio
SteveThanks very much for the detailed information. I got the Airport Express sort of as an afterthought. I already had the Benchmark DAC and a transport and was very happy with that combination but when I started having trouble with a Netgear wir...
The basics of PC audio
I'm using an Airport Express, connected to a Benchmark Audio DAC-1 by the digital/Toslink output from the Express. In theory, at least, the Benchmark eliminates any jitter coming from the Express, though I don't have any way to verify that. At any...
Advice on Budget System?
I would concur about the Audio Refinement Complete. It's exceptionally good for the money and better built than the others you listed. I've owned the Music Hall CD25 player and it was a wonderful piece of gear but don't have any experience with th...
Repairing braided speaker cable
I've used a product called "Liquid Tape" to help create a watertight seal when doing boat wiring. It would probably work in your situation.http://www.thetapeworks.com/liquid-tape.htm
Cable comparison
You may be right but it's a pretty common business strategy to get by on very low markup on the principal commodity and make money on the peripherals. Kodak did it with cameras, selling them cheap and making money on the film and processing. Car d...
Best wireless headphones
I tried a pair of Sennheiser wireless phones in a similar situation and gave up on them pretty quickly. The sound quality wasn't great but the thing that really made them unacceptable was that moving about in the room, even by a few feet, caused t...
How Can I Use MY IPOD For a Music Source?
GunbeiThe issue with the sound quality of your iPod may have as much to do with the integrity of the files on the iPod as it does with how you're getting your music from the iPod to your system. You didn't say in your original post whether you're c...
How Can I Use MY IPOD For a Music Source?

Tivoli Radio???
The tabletop radios I've compared are the Bose, the Cambridge Soundworks 88, the Tivoli and the Boston Acoustics Recepter. If what you want is the best sound for the money, I'd recommend the Boston, especially since they're available refurbished at...
merlin tsm`s on target stands?
I did manage to find a used pair of Osiris stands for my TSM's and thought I'd mention one consideration in using them or any other stand you might find. The Osiris had been universally recommended for the Merlins so I jumped on them when I saw a ...
