Good DACs for Apple Airport Express? Or receivers?
I've used the Airport Express with four DAC's, the Benchmark DAC1, the internal DAC in a Peachtree Decco, the Valab and the Beresford. I never had a problem with any of them locking onto the signal from either the Airport Express 802.11g or 802.11...
Good DACs for Apple Airport Express? Or receivers?
I've used a couple of inexpensive DAC's with an Airport Express, the Valab and the Beresford TC-7520 with the opamp upgrade. Both worked fine but the Beresford sounds much better to me than the Valab, has more flexibility and the build quality is ...
Valab Dac Moacbook and itunes
Open the 'System Preferences' application, which should be in the 'Applications' folder on your MacBook.Click on the 'Sound' icon, which will be in the row of 'Hardware' items within the System Preferences window. You should see two devices listed ...
Do you need a pre-amp with a digital front-end?
An inexpensive way to bypass the internal DAC of the computer and give yourself a dedicated external volume control is with the NuForce uDAC. It's $99, has a USB digital input, a volume control, analog output, coax digital output and a decent head...
Which CD Players do not require a Pre Amp ?
The Tjoeb! players sold by Upscale Audio have that feature.
DVD/CD Redbook Player
Agree with Madhf's recommendation of the Denon 3910. I also have a Denon 2900 that sounds great and is very solidly built. It does not have HDMI output, though, if that's a consideration for you.
Reliable Used int. amp for $1200? Plinius? Classe?
I've loved the Simaudio integrated amps I've owned. They have great sonics, exceptional build quality and the ergonomics are very well thought out. You might be able to find an I-5 within your price range and the I-3 is definitely within your budg...
Cleaning speaker cabinet? NHT 2.5i
The Plexus recommendation is a very good one. I use it on my motorcycle helmet visor and windshield and it does a much better job than anything else I've ever used.
Cleaning speaker cabinet? NHT 2.5i
A product that's worked very well for me with piano-black finishes is Meguiar's Quick Detailer, applied carefully with a microfiber cloth. It cleans smudges and leaves a very light polished finish.
AMC 2100 amps - what's your great bang for the $?
I bought an AMC CD8b player locally about eight years ago without really knowing much about it. I was just trying to quickly get a system together for a friend who was going through a divorce. It sounded exceptionally good and survived A/B tests a...
Will it work? Copland preamp and Moon I-5 Int Amp
Rova - I wasn't making the case that the preamp section of the I-5 is just as good as the Copeland, I don't have any experience with the Copeland so I wouldn't be comfortable comparing the two. I was saying only that I've found the I-5 could funct...
Will it work? Copland preamp and Moon I-5 Int Amp
I agree that in your situation having the I-5 as the center of an evolving system makes great sense. I owned the standard I-5 and now have an LE version. I use it as an integrated in warmer weather and as a preamp with a Class A tube power amp in ...
Will it work? Copland preamp and Moon I-5 Int Amp
The inputs on the I-5 labeled "A4" are designed as a pass-through that does not engage the preamp so that should work as the input for your preamp. I haven't used them that way but I can't think of a reason it wouldn't work.
Small Shelf System For Baby's Room?
I might be tough to find a digital input in a shelf system. An alternative could be an inexpensive DAC with optical output, like the Musical Fidelity V-DAC or a Valab, connected to the Airport Express and then to something like the Tivoli S7horton...
What did you own in the 60's?
My first system, 1966, was an AR turntable, AR speakers and a Dynaco SCA-35 integrated I built from a kit. Great memories of that setup, it was playing almost constantly for several years. Added a Tandberg reel-to-reel at some point later.
