shipping speakers
Original boxes are not necessarily the best way to ship. I had a pair of Thiel 2.2's that were damaged in shipment to me precisely because they were shipped in the original boxes. The boxes, as built, completely depended on a glued brace to keep t...
Rotel RA-02 or Audio Refinement Complete ?
I've owned both the Rotel RA-01, which is the same amp as the RA-02 without remote control, and the Audio Refinement Complete. I think the Rotel is a wonderful amp for the money and has a few bells and whistles you might find useful, like outputs ...
Good/inexpensive site to download for MP3 portable
emusic.com has a subscription model that's $10 a month and frees you from the worry of going over a budget.
Bulk cable for 40 ft. runs
I'm a big fan of the Canare 4s11 and 4s8, especially for long runs where the StarQuad geometry has some at least theoretical advantages but I'm not sure how much difference you'd be able to hear on rear surrounds, or if it matters enough to spend ...
Pioneer Elite Receivers
Shipping fees charged by sellers on ebay have no connection to the real cost of shipping the unit. They are, very often, a way to build the profit into a transaction and high shipping charges provide a couple of other advantages to the seller. Sin...

Which Intergrated amp for starter??
You can find good speakers for $500. The suggestions you've received are good ones and others I'd add would be Meadowlark Kestrels (or anything else by Meadowlark) or Soliloquy 5.0's.
Which Intergrated amp for starter??
Another vote for the Audio Refinement Complete. If you can't spend $500, any of the Rotel integrateds are a great value.
Best budget bookshelf speakers for 3-600 dollars.
Sorry about that last post, the Kestrels aren't bookshelf speakers.
Best budget bookshelf speakers for 3-600 dollars.
Meadowlark Kestrels are wonderful, very easy to live with and nice with all kinds of music. It should be relatively easy to find a pair at $500-600.
Ipod mini speakers
I've listened to both the JBL OnStage and the Bose SoundDock in the offices of co-workers and would buy the JBL if I were choosing between the two for myself, simply because it seems like a better buy. There's a constant stream on ebay of refurbis...
Meadowlark speakers
I have experience only with the original Kestrel but compared to other speakers I've owned or listened to in that price range I can recommend them very highly. They seem to do well with every kind of music and not be that critical about placement....
CDP upgrade opinions for Cayin TA30?
I've got the Music Hall CD-25 and it's a remarkable player for the money. I also own the Toshiba DVD players, both the 3950 and 3960, that have had a lot of buzz on the audio forums. The Music Hall is much better, even in stock form, and can be ea...
A blood oath among Audiogonistas
An interesting note on this from a New York Times article this morning on why Google uses only text ads, "...'the bit rate on text is very fast.' Anything that gets in the way of speed-reading must go. Google does not permit advertisers to use all...
Budget amp suggestions for Totem Model 1?
I think an Audio Refinement Complete would match your requirements quite well and they're reasonably easy to find used in the $500 range. I'm extremely happy with mine. There are lots of reviews online:http://www.audiorefinement.com/show04.htmhttp:...
