Need suggestions for small room speakers Proac 1SC. Great sound in a small, good looking package.
Classical music for Rockers Beethoven. The original punk rocker. I particularly recommend the Hammerklavier Sonata, op. 106 but really all the piano concertos, symphonies, everything.
Quad ESL 63's-Can they play rock music? I've owned two different pairs of QUAD 63's and a pair of QUAD 57's and I loved all three sets , and played a lot of rock on all of them. After all, even AC/DC has a midrange. Actually very little rock has bass below 50Hz and the QUAD's are surpri...
2 channel tube preamp for a HT receiver? Connect the front L/R outputs of the reciever to an Aux or Video input of the tube preamp. Then connect the preamp outputs back to the receiver. Set the volume on the preamp to 12noon and balance the output of the receiver to that for 5 channel us...
Going SACD or analog? I was in pretty much the same place as you so I'll tell you what I did even though that may be no help whatsoever in figuring out what you should do! I was a fairly early adopter of SACD and bought a SCD-1 and eagerly awaited the flood of new titl...
Recommend remasterd SACD albums? classical, jazz Mingus Ah Um and Brubeck Take Five are both totally great sounding on SACD.
Preamp noise now I have had similar problems in the past that were fixed by replacing unshielded interconnects (Kimber PBJ) with shielded ones. May or may not be your problem but it took me forever to find that solution.
OT: Windows XP Update Service Pack 1 I downloaded (fast) and installed (slow) XP SP1 and following that my Sony VAIO refused to boot, endlessly cycling me through ScanDisk at startup. I ended up having to reinstall XP from CD using the Recovery Console. Obviously this is not a good u...
What tube amps for the Quad ELS 63 Another helpful tip on Quad setup is not to toe them in. Leave them parallel to the wall (hopefully, several feet) behind them.
Best CD sound from a DVD player The Camelot Roundtable is supposed to be a very good CD player and about the best available DVD player. The MK 1 version can be found here used for around $2k. I just bought a used EAD TheaterVision P for about $1200 which is very good on both CD ...
H-CAT Model 12-P Preamp, Fact or Fiction?? I read the Anna Log review on avguide.com and wrote to H-CAT in March saying I would buy a preamp the very second they had one available to sell. They wrote back saying production units should be available in April. I wrote them twice after and he...
Babyproofing Stand-mounted speakers My two cents: Blu Tac is not epoxy! Although it makes a good sonic bond with the stand, it is very easy to break that bond just by pushing. No way would I bet on Blu Tack vs. a toddler in a wager to keep a monitor on its stand.
Smallest Bookshelf Speaker Worth Listening To I am sure there are smaller, but the ProAc 1SC is a world class speaker, within its frequency limitations, and quite small.
Any info on Infinity Modulus 1 monitors I owned these many, many years ago and barely remember them through the fog of at least a dozen upgrades since. I think you'd probably be better off with the Paradigms which in a brief demo sounded much more integrated to me than I remember the In...
VTL ST-85 Amp, any Preamp recommendations.... I just set up my girlfriend's system with a VTL ST-85, Proac 1SC's and the VTL 2.5 tube preamp. Sounds very, very nice indeed. |
