Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
vinyl *isn't* as convenient as cd, but, when i'm doing serious listening, changing a record every 15-20 minutes is not really a big deal - it's actually a bit of a break to stretch, etc. and, ya, i *do* have to treat my records w/special care, unl...
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
myoussif, definitely do the vinyl thing - it will be better'n your cd's & it's here now. i can't argue w/cardinal's recommendation of the linn - it *will* beat your cd's, but so will a rega planar3/sumiko blu-point/creek fono-stage, imho... ;~...
Best Integrated amp 'around' $1000???
i thought my linn kairn preamp was really nice - unbelievably detailed & accurate, great soundstage width & height, but little depth. so, i went for a tubed preamp. still, i think their integrated is good sound for money - all the linn stu...
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
*definitely* take the plunge! if you can live with buying used, a $2k vinyl set-up will sound better than *any* current cd set-up at *any* price, imho. also, for best cd sound, don't spend mega-bucks on a cd player - invest it into a preamp instea...
Any, good portable CD players?
what *i* wanna know is: are there any good cd players of *any* kind? ;~)
Long Live 2 Channel audio......???
i don't know *anything* about surround for home theatre - movies don't interest me, so it's not an issue. but, i feel i have the best of both worlds regarding 2-channel & surround-sound for audio. i have a jvc xpa-1010 surround-sound processor...
Sonic Frontiers, what is going on??
i wondered about this also - perhaps a blunt email to sonic-frontiers asking *them* about it? regards, doug
Best Pre-Amp with Phono Stage
i agree w/many of the comments on this list, tho i also suggest trying the cary slp98, & the melos music director. electrocompaniet & pentagon also make excellent fono-stages that can be used w/line-stage preamps. (i'm sure there are other...
Active subwoofer or means of better bass
hi drgammel, curtis' rega planar 3 is a turntable, curtis dint tell us what his main speakers are... ;~) regarding dbx, i respect their electronix, but i still feel better-quality would be obtained from a good dedicated x-over & a separate amp...
How much $$ in a TT to equal a midfi CDP
i think if you buy used, a $2k rig, complete w/turntable, arm, cartridge, & fono-stage, will smoke *any* digital set-up. sure, digital has less background noise - but also less music. one person's opinion. doug
DIY planar drivers
check out newform research - they have full-range speakers *very* competitively priced, or you can buy yust their ribbons for your own bottom-end. check out the reviews of their r645's on audioreview. - these are ~$2250, delivered... doug
Active subwoofer or means of better bass
get a pair of vmps subs - the larger, if ya have the room. cross them over w/a marchand xm9 24db/octave active x-over. power the subs w/a good used solid-state amp, like an adcom gfa555/parasound/aragon/rotel/etc. a good active x-over (db systems ...
Talon Loudspeakers
read closer, carl - i was poking fun at our buddy phill, commenting on how productive name calling is: NOT!!! ;~) perhaps jon v *did* get it wrong, but i've heard from others that these drivers are one & the same... regards, doug
Give the Oracle an 'arm...
hi khrys, i was gonna get the oracle turbo p/s, but from what i've read about the origin-live power supply, i gotta believe it's at least the equal of the oracle-turbo, & at less than 1/5 the price. check out origin-live'w www, & reviews o...
Record Cleaners-Which Work-Which Don't
i get good results hand-washing my records w/mild dish soap & luke-warm water. during play, i used to use a watts dust-bug, recently replaced w/a n.o.s. keith monks record sweeper, which has a ground-lead to remove static. i also use a milty z...
