Need help picking between 6550 and KT88 tubes
I have an amp coming this weekend that uses EL34, 6L6, KT66, KT88, etc. I read up over at the Asylum and there are a few folks raving about the 6N3C-e (or 6p3s-e, depending on the alphabet (Russian). The amp comes with 6L6s, so I ordered a pair of...
ipod connection to home audio system
Not sure if you're just looking to make music or if you're looking for best sound. If you just want to make music, all you need is a cheap Radio Shack cable with 1/8 inch (I believe, whatever size fits in iPod) headphone on one end and double RCAs ...
Tube recomendations for a newbie
I believe tube rolling can make a big difference in the sound of the component. Whether or not rolling the originals out of the Migda will be better or not, only you can decide.I've had great luck with sellers here on A-Gon, as well as Jim McShane...
Looking for a preamp...............
I also had the Adcom preamp/tuner some time ago. I went to a Quicksilver tubed linestage and to this day believe that was one of the biggest improvements I've heard in any of my systems. At the time I had the Adcom pre, a NAD 214 amp, and Paradigm...
complete my system
Wd515 - You will need interconnects from your source (iPod, CD Player, etc.) to the SP3. If iPod, it should be phone jack on one end (can be inserted into the headphone out of the iPod or the out of the dock) and RCA on the other (a red and a blac...

Why power cable effect overall syste sound?
IÂ’ve never tried anything but stock power cords on any of my gear so not sure if they would improve things or not. But if I tried to figure it out from this thread, wellÂ…fuggettaboutit! To me, this type of thread is exactly what cable manufacturers...
DIY tube amps?
If you want to build a kit, Audionote, Bottlehead and Decware come to mind. I built the Decware kit (low power @ 2 watts or so).If you want to build from scratch, go to diyaudioprojects dot com
amp or preamp most important
I agree that the entire chain is important, but in my experience if you get the amp/speaker matchup wrong you are toast.
The closest approach: what amplification?
Ggavetti,But it's not a race. The question is what's "best" (or may as well be, since the OP asks "close as possible to the reproduction of a live event")Fastest you can quantify and measure, and all will agree on the measurement.Best, or close as ...
Speakers that like corners
I have KHorns in a room about your size and they work about as well as any other I've had in there. I love the extra room I have now because the KHorns are tucked into the corners and out of the floor. May or may not be right for you.
Auditioning a Tube Amp
"The Baby is noted for being dead quiet, but what if there is just a hint of buzz? A bit is acceptable for SS, is it not for tubes?"You may hear some hum or slight noise with any amp, maybe more likely with tubes that SS. I don't see it as the hug...
Krell KAV-400xi impressions
I owned it when I owned Magnepan 1.6s. I liked it - Lots of detail, I thought the bass was accurate (not light, not unnaturally heavy). Plenty of power. Sounded good. When I changed to Martin Logans I didn't like the way it sounded with them. I wou...
Magnepan, How Low Can You Go...power-wise
More power is better, but - If he powers them with the Sim amp in question he will be fine. He'll get to Brazil, plop down on the couch with his favorite beverage and smile and be glad he bought the Maggies for a great price. If he finds another ex-...
