long i/c run...looking for high end cable
Whatever brand of cables that you end up going with, with that long of a run, i would HIGHLY recommend using balanced cables. Sean>
very disappointed about my system setup
Thoroughly cleaned records played back on a "reasonable" linear tracking table have a MUCH lower surface noise level and blacker background than even a well set up pivoted arm. Obviously, differences in cartridges, stylus shapes, VTA, etc.. can th...
Peter Gabriel in Chicago
I too thought it was a good show and had pretty good seats - front row : ) While i would not say that there were a lot of theatrics involved compared to some bands, i would say that there was a lot more going on than a bunch of musicians sitting a...
Why do digital cables sound different?
While it is strictly a matter of semantics, the actual digital out signal from a transport is sent at 2.822 MHz. If one could resonate a cable that introduced a perfect non-reactive 75 ohm load at that frequency, you would end up with no standing ...
DAC decision, help please
Stan, having owned every version of the Sigma and Alpha DAC's ever made, currently owning a highly modified GDA-700, having listened to a fully modified Dio from Bolder Cables, Bel Canto and MSB along with the newer Musical Fidelity upsampler, i w...
Whats the BEST audio site :
If i was "stuck" with Agon and AA as being the only audio related websites that i could visit, i would not mind one bit. Sure, there are others that i visit on a daily basis, but i spend most of my time on those two for good reason. Sean>
Sansui AU-X1
Fred, you might be better off by finding a site dedicated to vintage Sansui products. I don't know if one exists, but i would not doubt it. There is a website for just about anything you want to think about and then some. Sean>
neutrality vs. realism
I think that we are all looking for the same things i.e. a system that can deliver all of the subtle and delicate details of a recording :A) without loosing any warmth in the mid-bass, liquidity of mids or definition of low frequenciesB) without i...
For a fuller bass- A3.2 MF or Unico UR ?
While i can't offer direct comparisons between any of the gear mentioned, i can offer some notes that i've cobbled together. Musical Fidelity gear has a family sound i.e. it is all voiced the same. To me, that sound is relatively lean and lacking ...
Question on setting up mono block
Kind of confusing here. You say that the RCA's are on the back of the amps ( which would make them "inputs" ) yet you call them "outputs". This could lead some to believe that you were referring to the preamplifier outputs, which .5 V and even 1 V...
Can you help a computer "idiot" ?
Lngbruno: Thanks for the resonse. I do not know what OS you are running, but i came up in "never-never" land when i did what you said. For the record, i have XP on this computer, so that might change a few things. Sean>
Great Imaging Speakers Working against a wall?
Ernie: No, i can't say that i've heard anything like that other than during HT sound effects. Obviously, this is done using electronic processing, so i would not expect this to be achieved with "normal" music recordings and this specific speaker p...
The Heat Is On
Zaikesman: Very good and valid point. I would hate for someone to try "cleaning" or "oiling" their speakers, thinking that it was okay to use a specific product because it was something that we recommended here, and end up destroying / altering th...
Good turntable equipped for about 700 dollars?
Twl: Linn probably stole / modeled their motto after Stiff Records, which was a "punk" record label back in the 70's and early 80's. While they had MANY "amusing" motto's over the years, the one that i was thinking of went something like "If it ai...
The Heat Is On
Glad to see you back, knucklehead : ) Sean>
