Most underated albums......
Phasecorrect: I won't say anything that hasn't already been said except for that we share common musical tastes. VERY much so... : ) Sean>
SACD and CD player mods
If you use a "good" tech, they'll offer some type of warranty and stand behind their work. Even if it does break, they should be able to repair it. As such, i would choose a "modifier" that is well established, has a good reputation and you think ...
Where is the best place to store electronic parts?
Individually wrap them in small bubble wrap and put them in zip-loc baggies. The use of a small "moisture absorbing pack" might also be useful. Then toss them into a shoe box or something else that is appropriately sized. You can label them on the...
Need help with tracking vinyl
I wonder how rigid these are ? With a little damping applied to minimize ringing, might make for one helluva replacement when re-coning a woofer : ) Sean>
Easy to discriminate between DAC ??
I have been able to hear very noticeable differences in DAC's. As to which DAC works best in your system, that will vary with the rest of your components, your personal preference and the digital cable that you are using. You might find that you l...
Loreena McKennitt and Eva Cassidy
Loreena McKennitt's "Mask and the Mirror" is quite excellent, both musically and sonically. Sean>
A strange thing happened on the way to...
I think that you will find the presentation of the Talon's and that of a Maggie to be quite different. Which one you like best will have a lot to do with your room, speaker set-up and personal taste. Sean>
Cable "burn in"
Compared to a "good" cable burner, using a source component such as a tuner or CD player is a poor substitute. It works, but you don't get anywhere near the same results. Sean>
Q: Does the number of tubes affect the sound?
The more tubes that you run, the greater your chances for circuit instability ( stray capacitance ) and signal decay. The same can be said for SS devices also, but to a lesser extent. This becomes even more true as both devices age i.e. SS devices...
Do I need or want preamp tone controls
Buy a preamp with a processor loop. You can insert whatever type of signal processor ( analogue parametric EQ, analogue graphic EQ, digital room correction / tone control, etc... ) into the circuit as you desire. This is FAR more precise and FAR m...
To Power Condition or not?
Harley: You have enough transformer in the Tice to run ONE good sized stereo amp and that is all. You might be able to get away with two amps if you listen at rather moderate volumes or have high efficiency speakers. Ideally, you wouldn't have any...
Empirical????????
While i've never tried any of his cables, Steve is a smart guy and actually DOES understand the technical attributes of various cable designs and materials used. He also has the proper test equipment to measure cables, which probably can't be said...
What interconnects with SACD 1000 ?
Just for kicks, take a look at the digital source that is being used to drive custom built tube preamp / custom built tube monoblocks / custom built speakers at CES / T.H.E. Show. Obviously, some people do feel that the SACD 1000 is capable of bei...
Linn LP12 Black Felt Mat How do you keep it on ?
I can't imagine that static build-up is a good thing on a vinyl rig. I would suggest looking for another platter mat and working on leveling out the humidity level in your listening room. Sean>
Question for Velvet Underground fans
Thanks Rock. That is the right tune now that you mention the name of it. Hopefully, someone will be familiar with all of their releases. Then again, i could always start at the beginning and work my way through them : ) Sean>
