Toslink Cable Upgrade?
I tried several of the more expensive TOSLINK cables in comparison to the Monster. Frankly, I couldn't hear any differences -- if they're were any, it was so subtle they weren't audible to me. The Monster TOSLINK has gotten good reviews by several...

Belated obituary to a jazz great
At the risk of sounding morbid, I nearly stopped attending live jazz performances in the late '70's through the mid-80's. During that time span, I saw Sonny Stitt, Art Pepper, and Bill Evans, and all died within 6-8 weeks after I saw them. My wife...
Digital Rules
Sorry, I refuse to stop listening to my Edison cylinders. They were good enough for my grandparents, and they're good enough for me and my family! Screw progress!!
small office speakers
You've got some good choices available, but I'll share what I am using in my office: a pair of Krix Equinoxes that I bought for $300 (used) on Audiogon. I think they're an excellent small speaker which meet your criteria for a true bookshelf unit....
A minor rant
Sean: if I follow your logic on this, the ultimate objective is to totally couple the audio component to the supporting surface. Since ball bearings and cones leave a lot of area that is not coupled (being circular, they leave gaps between themsel...
A minor rant
Hi, Megasam. I agree with you that these type of bearing devices can be useful, and would reinforce your comment that the bearings have to be seen in the context of the overall system. One set of bearings might be supportable (no pun intended) wit...
A minor rant
Some great, funny posts. Or should that be riposts. I've even gotten a couple of private E-mails from members who are equally turned off by some of the irrational reviews of products. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent -- and you're probably right...
Thanks to a fellow A-gon member
Before this thread falls off the main page, I wanted to share a follow-up message with Charlie. I had an hour or more tonight to do some serious listening before my wife arrived home, and I am really pleased with the excellent compilation of Lovet...
Which 5 ch Amp for Home Theater?
In addition to considering the various Rotel, B&K, etc., choices, you might also want to look at:1. Outlaw 5-channel amp (direct from manufacturer -- $1100);2. Adcom 5500 (2-channel, 200 wpc) and 5503 (3-channel, 200 wpc) combo (can be bought ...

Garfish and Charlie: You're both right in your comments about college football. I love audio, but Univ of Washington Husky football is what I live for in the fall!!Only 60 days and 17 hours until the Dawgs play Michigan here in Seattle, and then i...
Forget Expensive Gel Absorbers
It's always fun, and sometimes a little disconcerting, to find tweaks at a fraction of the price that is charged for the identical "audio" version. Blu-Tak is another example: you can buy essentially the same product for less at OfficeMax or Offic...
Demagnatizing Phono Cartridges
Hi, Abstract: With due respect, I fully understand that one is not trying to demagnetize the magnet (which, I think, is what I said in my post). The rest of my post tried to make the point that, in almost all cases, the generator assembly, the car...
need power cord to my system.....
Sean: all of the newer Brystons (the "ST" series) use qite large toroidal transformers. I don't remember the exact spec's on the transformers in the 4B-ST, but I think we're talking about 1.2 - 1.4 kVA units.
I'm moving--advice please
Vermonter: I know Ramstein well -- my duty station in Idar-Oberstein was about 30 miles north of K-town, not far from Baumholder. Joking aside, if you happen to see some good job leads, let me know. I'd love to return to Germany.
