Would You Pay $9.95 For Satillite Radio I'd have to listen to the content and judge the audio quality before I'd sign a long-term contract. I currently get DMX as part of my digital cable package, and I'm not impressed with it. Of the 40+ channels of music it offers, maybe 5 interest me...
Anyone Familar With ESS Speakers? The other posts have pretty much said it all, but I'll throw in one more point. I sold audio gear on a part-time basis in 1974-75, and the store where I worked carried the ESS Heil speakers (that name always makes me want to put on German martial ...
Which SS pre-amp Muse, Mus. Fid., Krell I have a Bryston SP-1 preamp, plus Bryston power amps. If I were looking for a moderately priced stereo preamp today, I'd seriously consider the Adcom GFP-750. Even at its full retail price it is a superb unit, and as a used unit it is, to my mind...
best power cable for bryston About a month ago, I responded to a thread on this subject. I have two Bryston amps (4B-ST and 5B-ST). I tried several of the more expensive power cords, and then bought a pair of AudioQuest power cords from HCM Audio that were/are on sale for und...
Upgrade Vandy 3A's or get larger amp? I upgraded my 3A's to the Signature version last summer, and was very glad I did. Ditto most of the comments above: cleaner, more transparent highs, and better balanced overall. I think both the 3A's and 3A Sig's clearly benefit from a larger powe...
Klyne Preamp ? In a word, I think the Klyne preamps are "stellar". Stan Klyne's products are superbly built and offer the highest quality audio reproduction.
Hate to ask...... I am also in the camp of those that think HT is great. I don't have quite the passion for it that I do for high-end audio, perhaps because I find serious music listening to be far more engaging that 95% of the movies I see. To me, comparing HT to ...
Jazz Review: Miles Davis I should have included one other Web site that has a good review of Miles' recordings:http://www.warr.org/miles.htmlGood listening!
Jazz Review: Miles Davis Hi, Greg: There is a fairly complete discography of Miles' recordings for Columbia listed on the second Web site I mentioned in the review. Unfortunately, it does not include the recordings from Prestige.
Jazz Review: Miles Davis I'm glad you took the time to share your reactions to several of Miles' recordings. Jazz has many styles, like any complex art form, and isn't going to appeal to everyone, all the time. To use a painting analogy, I've never cared for Picasso, but ...
Jazz Review: Miles Davis I forgot one bit of information that I should have included with the list of recommended recordings. I had suggested that listeners might want to choose recordings from Miles' various periods, but did not categorize the recordings by date. Here's ...
Solid state amplifier $2K Used or New I'm a Bryston owner also (4B-ST and 5B-ST), and think they're fine amps and an excellent value (very well build, and have a 20-year transferrable warranty) -- well worth putting on your short list. The other amp that has gotten very good reviews o...
Any advise to improve my system I have to agree with the folks that suggest new speakers. Remember that the speaker is the only transducer in your system, and is therefore the most subject to problems of distortion, non-linearity, etc. Further, your speakers do not have the full...
Belated obituary to a jazz great Chazzbo: I'd be delighted to play "grim reaper" at the concerts of the guys you mention -- and I'd add another 15-20 more, plus a whole pile of rappers....
Center Channel needs to handle bass? If your HT processor sends a full-range signal to all speakers, your center channel may handle some lower frequencies, but the really deep stuff gets sent as a LFE signal to the subwoofer. I doubt that your center channel will see much information... |
