After fifty years… amazing. What high end audio can be. Re affordable gear for the yout’ we elders run into—I was with one of my nieces over Christmas and she bought 3 albums at a sale at the library and asked me about some $400 TT-speaker all in one setup she saw at Crutchfield. I recommended she get ...
After fifty years… amazing. What high end audio can be. Let me join the crowd born in 1953 to say—happy 70th to all of us and many more years of happy listening! I too have spent years and $$$ to get to the system I have today and like GHDPrentice I don’t regret all the effort to arrive here. Now let’s...
Bad Cornwall IV? I have Klipsch Heresy IVs bought new from Upscale a year or so ago and the binding posts are picky!! I had no sound from one speaker, blamed my amp, fiddled and futzed and discovered it was the spade speaker connectors. Switched to bananas via tho...
For Vandersteen owners & lovers: Which other brands do you like? I’m a fan of the Vandersteen sound as well. I like them with ARC or Ayre amps. I spent years with B&W culminating in the 801 Matrix series 3, then on to Genesis 500 and ProAc Response floorstanders, then auditioned Vandy Treos and Quattros but...
$1000 (used ok) Streamer Dac recommendation please Auralic Altair is wonderful and used can be had for $600-700. I have two!
What were the radio stations of your youth that helped you on your music/audio journey? KUNM in Albuquerque—my cousin Paul was the station manager in the mid to late 70s, and he had really eclectic tastes.
Integrated amp suggestions. The Ayre integrated—AX5-Twenty—is the best I’ve heard with many different speakers. I ended up with the VX-5 Twenty and kept my tube preamp but that integrated sounded so special with my Audio Physic speakers.
Can anyone recommend a good streamer/DAC? Yes. Auralic Altair new or used. It works with Roon or you can you its own Lightning software.
New Turntable Direction I have had my Linn for 25+ yrs and have done many of the upgrades including the Keel. Last year when I retired I bought a VPI Classic Signature on a sale from Upscale Audio—just to hear something different. I still have my Linn and I often A/B the...
Most organic / real / analogue sounding DAC (ideally with Volume Control) for $1500?????? Ayre Codex or QB-9 used. Nothing harsh or lean about these. Aqua LaVoce also fantastic but $3000+
It was 20 years ago today... I remember the early adopters and posters as well, but I don’t remember when I first found the site. My join date says Feb 1, 2001 but that’s just what got filled in when Audiogon adopted its new format. Looking through some of my transactions it ...
Looking for an integrated amp around 4000 to 5000. The Ayre AX5-Twenty was the most amazing integrated I’ve heard. I got a VX5-Twenty amp and pair it with my BAT preamp but the integrated sounds better at least in my system and with my musical tastes. I believe you can find a used AX5-Twenty in yo...
Most recordings you own by a single artist, group, or composer Bob Dylan and JS Bach and in 3rd place probably Neil Young. The best of the best.
audiophiles who are just getting the itch to upgrade I still have my LP12 after 30 yrs, and the single biggest upgrade I did was the Keel subchassis. Sounded like a new TT. Recently I had the Karousel installed as well. Still using Ekos II and Akita cart. Karousel is a noticeable improvement but not...
Phono cable advice. I bought a Pangea phono cable with ground from Audio Advisor—$90. I think it’s really good and well made. |
