The Hub: Just how bad is it in high end audio?
People have little disposable income, even things considered necessities in the past are experiencing a slump. The current string of closures for dealers and manufacturers will continue, those that survive will be ones that find ways to adapt to t...
Vincent CD-S5?
The S5 is a class A solid state player, the S6 is a tube hybrid. The S5 has more extension and bass weight, but the S6 has a warmer sound with more midrange presence and a bigger soundstage. The S8 should be here any day, the matching pre and amps...
Is the market changeing?
Tax time and family summer vacations probably have as much impact as the "slowdown" has on audio. With the dollar being so weak, imported brands will probably hold or gain value on the used market. US products will begin to become more of a "barga...
Give up on Thiel 3.6 or try another amp again ?
I know a lot of people love Thiels, but they are bright speakers plain and simple. There is nothing warm or forgiving about them, and regardless of the amp you use you will not be happy if you are looking for a different sound. There are many choic...
b LED ing red for your Redbook CDs?
Part of the reason few players use red LEDs is they are very hard to see in most rooms. The Regas are nice players, warm and musical. If you can tolerate another display color check out the Vincent tube hybrid players.
Short USB cables choices
Kimber makes a nice and inexpensive USB cable, runs around $50 and is a clear improvement over the ones normally used for PC's.
Amp Stands for 501's

Tube amp for talon Firehawk
I heard the Rives room at RMAF with the VAC integrated and Hawks, sound was very very impressive. I have always admired VAC gear, again it is just a matter of cost as they don't make anything lower priced...
balanced connections Calypso/Rhea
Plug the Rhea into any input 1-5, beware of adjusting gain on the Rhea as a volume control, these are BIG steps unlike on a preamp. Make sure all of the XLR's click in as mentioned or you can have noise issues, and absolutely do not do any cable s...
Opinions on lower priced digital that can compete
In response to the "make your teeth hurt" comment...I run a DAC-1 with a Stereovox HDXV and have found it a great match. Kid, if your setup causes such discomfort I think there are some issues elsewhere in your system. The Stereovox is not a tone ...
Power Conditioner Suggestions
I would also recommend the BPT, very high value for the money and can be ordered many different ways. Shunyata Hydra also works quite well, but in my system was just a touch bright, though very detailed and dynamic. The PS audio powerplants work v...
help with my speakers
You may have damaged the tweeter by running it direct and bypassing the crossover if in fact it wasn't already bad. Tweeters have very low tolerance for full spectrum signals, fractions of a watt can cause lots of damage.
Hail to Mcintosh
Good to hear you had a positive experience with them. many manufacturers are quite good in this respect, some are horrible, always good to know which are in which camp. I am not sure about the other posting you mentioned but I would never consider...
Tweaks and upgrades that aren't gimmicks
Room treatment cannot really be argued, a "naked" room will sound like crud, everyone has at least some form of dampening be it sofas, chairs, or floor coverings, but going above and beyond this is a huge difference. I have found outlets and dedic...
Dali Euphonia MS5- Speaker cables - & I/Cs?
I have the Helicon 800's which are very similar to the MS5's, and I have found a nice "synergy" using Synergistic Research cables. These seem to add some additional depth and accuracy to the soundstage and they make several different cable types t...
