RCM recommendations
A while back I did an experiment with the help of a friend. I have a VPI 16.5 and he has a PRC3 Loricraft. I first cleaned a group of records on my VPI and then hauled my cleaning supplies with the records to his place. We first listened to the re...
Help with problem setting up Phantom I tonearm?
I figured this out by beating my head against a wall for a few days. BTW, the hair never grows back! Glad this worked for you and hopefully, this is now documented in the archives for others to benfit from.
Help with problem setting up Phantom I tonearm?
I had the same problem - drove me nuts until I figured it out. The issue is the Magneglide has pulled the bearing off center. There should be a gap of slightly less than 1/8" between the magnet & the arm. You'll notice that when it's wrong, th...
Arc-PH-5 what tubes should I use
ARC gear has always had an affinity with Amperex tubes especially the 6922 types. These just spank any of the Russian variety’s including the 6H23N's which are only marginally better than your garden variety Sovtek tube.My favorites are either the...
Tips for buying used Vinyl needed
Ditto here on a RCM with the following caveat. I have a VPI 16.5 and use the AIVS stuff and a friend has a Loricraft. We did an experiment where I cleaned a batch of records from the late 50’s to the early 60’s on my VPI. I carted the records over...
Cincinnati, OH, any audiophiles?
Glad you guys saw the thread about the record store. A hint, look under the bins as there are records everywhere. I saw a copy of the Mercury boxed set of Dorati doing the Tchaikovsky 4 Suites for Orchestra hiding there. While these sound like ear...
Whest MC REF V - my new christmas present
I understand that everyone’s in business and must make money but 50% seems high. Considering that the distributor doesn’t pay retail for his product, the spread is even higher. It’s situations like this that make enterprising souls look for altern...
Whest MC REF V - my new christmas present
"It's £9900 in the UK including VAT." That's £8425 w/o VAT which equates to $13230 in the US at current exhange rates. The US distributor is marking this up by 50% over the UK retail price. Nice.
Cincinnati, OH, any audiophiles?
Hi guys,I wanted to let you know that we have a new source of vinyl in town called "Another Part of the Forest". It's located at 1333 Main St downtown and is open Wed thru Sun noon until 10:00pm. The LP's are used and they have a nice variety of c...
Picture Thread
Syntax,What's the length the Davici arm in the picture on the Debut?? Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but it looks like 12 inches. Thanks,Scott
Basis vs.VPI
You’ve hit on the biggest problem today with analogue and that is making valid comparisons between different components. Unfortunately I don’t experience with the two you specifically reference. I have owned both a VPI and a Basis table so I can o...
Graham Phantom II + Dynavector XV1's need help
If I remember correctly, the inner groove is the right channel. So, tilting the arm to the left may have exasperated the problem.Likewise, play with anti-skate. Anti-skate correction is somewhat equivalent to brain surgery with a dull butter knife...
How Does the Soundsmith
Hey Tom,Give Bob Johnson a call. He just bought one of the lower priced Soundsmith's and loves it. He's a classical guy so I would assume that it does complex music just fine.I don't think Bob made to your place for the two meeting we had there bu...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
The input sensitivity of both the VT130 & VTM 200 are much different than the D115. Level matching may be an issue. Why not just buy another D115? If you need more power, a D250 maybe a better option.
Anybody have the Feickert Adjust + program?
Dan_ed,Feickert recommends that you use an external sound card since the sound cards in most machines are low quality and don't have high enough resolution.
