Clayton Audio Class A amps. Need amp advice
Frank, did you hear the Krell in your system? Charles raises the most important point: amp & speaker matching. If so, how do compare the sound of the Krell vs the Clayton? If you heard the Krell w/different speakers, it's really easy to draw i...
jazzheads need your help: Clark terry
Live at The Village Gate is one of the best sounding jazz recordings ever. Played at every audio show when released.Remember The Time is a great album produced in honor of Clark's 75th birthday. He was still jamming! Cheers,Spencer
Why no Spectral phono stage?
Given Dr. Johnson's role in digital recording technology, (HDCD, etc.) perhaps focusing on analog playback strategically isn't of interest to Spectral. Cheers,Spencer
Thinking about buying a different tube preamp...

Recommendation for a 12 year old
Many of the inexpensive Shure carts feature a stylus/cantilever that easily slides out for replacement at about $10/each. For my collegiate out-of-town beginner, that was a worthwhile feature. Accidents will happen, as Elvis Costello sang. Cheers,...
DIY Stereo Rack
Slipknot1 and I did a rack for my system that uses all McMaster-Carr hardware and maple shelves from perfectplank.com(thanks Trelja for that source). I agree with others that the key to the rack is easily adjustable shelves that are easy to level....
Daryls House - some great takes on familar songs
Yeah, I never really got into ZZ Top, but the Billy Gibbons episode is one of the best. Also love the Butch Walker & Diane Burch episodes.Darryl and band(s) remind me of Steely Dan in their heyday. It's amazing when you hear some of these jams...

Clayton Audio Class A amps. Need amp advice
Frank,Before you drown the baby in the bath water re-read your old praise of the C8s. IMHO, "The grip I want to control that fat, stubborn, internal Kevlar driver is gonna prob cost me my rich, lush, fatty, warm enveloping, 3d sound stage that is ...
Clayton Audio Class A amps. Need amp advice
Frank,You might be missing the significance of Al's last post (and Atmasphere's linked comments) that your cable differences might not be as great in this instance, hence Mogami XLR probably can do the trick at low cost. Trying your adapters won't...
Which Turntable??
If you go for the ELP be prepared to spend extra effort cleaning your LPs. They have trouble tracking even the tiniest dusty bits. I've seen albums cleaned on a Loricraft that won't play properly on the ELP and sound great on the owner's other tur...
System assessment--should I change amps?
Arsh, it seems like there are ten new DACs coming out every month. IMHO, they depreciate like computers(i.e. fast!) more than other audio gear, so value percent of original price ties very much to age. Improvements in processors etc. keep bringing...
amp for vandersteen Quatro maybe vandersteen 5a
AR Tube is what I was going to recommend. Commonly matched together. Cheers,Spencer
System assessment--should I change amps?
Arsh,3 thoughts for your consideration...As a former Trivista DAC owner, I can say confidently that as ZD suggests your digital front end can be greatly improved upon at resonable cost. No area in audio has made such strides since the time of your...
Any experience with Sonus Faber Electa Amator II?
