Mac with USB Dac
I have had a few high end CDP's, the best of which was a modified Resolution Audio Opus 21. I now have a Mac Mini with a Wavelength Audio DAC. Do I miss the Opus? Not for a second! Does the computer/DAC combo sound better? I think so. And, as Eric...
PC vs MAC laptop as music server
If you decide to go Mac, which I also recommend, get a new Mac Mini. It will sound much better in comparison to the laptop. Also try this ripper: XLD.
Mac Mini vs. another Mac for music server
I just received a new Mac Mini. Fired it up and had a listen. Marked improvement in comparison to Macbook. I can't be as articulate as Ehider other than to agree....it just sounds better.
I want to use an OTA HD antenna...
I'm too lazy to read all the posts, so this has probably already been mentioned, but any UHF/VHF antenna will pick up the new digital signals. You don't need to buy a gimmicky HD antenna. Of course, you'll need the converter box, or a new TV with ...
Roku player now streaming HD movies from Netflix
We've been using Netflix Instant Watch with a HD TIVO, and it is simply fantastic!!! Plus, no additonal charges, like Unbox, aside from the usual monthly subscription fees. As far as I'm concerned, Tivo is worth it just because of this new feature...

What kind of active speakers?
What kinds of music? All kinds of course. The thing to understand about active speakers is that they are engineered to ensure proper collaboration between the drivers and the amps. They take the guesswork out picking amps and complimentary speaker...

1. As far as an integrated that also features a DAC, this is the only one I'm aware of: Peachtree Audio Decco. And, this little integrated is well regarded.2. I think Dan is right, you'll have to get a new phono stage, which can be connected to th...
Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Owners?
The nice bloke who runs computeraudiophile.com loves his Berkey. Check out his site....he has a few reviews and write ups about it.
Dac recommendations for Mac Book Pro
Wavelength Bricks pop up on the 'Gon from time to time for around 1k. ....one just sold. All Wavelength Dac's are USB. There's a lot of debate about what port to use. Supposedly, USB limits music files to 24/96 and the Brick will only process 16/4...
What kind of active speakers?
Thanks Bob, Playnaked, and others. I have actives in my main system and I agree, they work great!
Download and "ripping" questions with a Mac.
Hi Greg,Yep, I forgot to mention that sometimes, though infrequently, MAX will screw up or not recognize tag info. Even if it recognizes, it sometimes does not carry over to Itunes for some reason. So, you're forced to fill that in later. It's a p...
Download and "ripping" questions with a Mac.
Max is easy to use, but the user interface is not as clean as Itunes. #1. Download Max from sbooth.org and install. #2 Run Max and go to preferences. #3 Select Applelosseless or AIFF, which is Apple's version of WAV. Also, make sure error correcti...
