CD player suggestions...
+ for Rotel, but the more upscale CD14MKII. I own two Rotel products and beyond the sound quality, they are built like tanks and they are reliable for many years. See review at link
Anything close to Hegel H360 but smaller/lighter?
Given your speakers (I own Totem Sky floor standers), the H360, now H390, has more power than you’d need. The less costly H120 would be more than adequate and provide a very similar, neutral and highly resolving sound.
Magnepan .7 Alternatives
Try auditioning a pair if Totem Arro or Sky Towers. They work well in a small room and can be placed fairly close to a rear wall for a rear ported design. Very transparent and surprisingly good bass for a two-way. Reasonably efficient. They will f...
Recommendations for small desktop speakers under $1500
+1 for the ATC SCM7, a truly phenomenal piece of kit. For a small speaker for near field listening I have not heard anything close to it. Clear, detailed, neutral sound and if you a add decent small sub like a REL T5i you will shocked at how good ...
Looking for Speaker Recommendations
If you like Wilson and want new consider the Aerial Acoustics 6T. It’s non-fatiguing and a good match for your musical tastes. In addition to used Wilson’s you can consider a used pair of the Aerial Acoustics 7T or older 7B. They are a bit larger ...
Looking for a preamp with XLR connections
Ditto for Ayre preamps. I’ve owned an entry level K-5e for over 15 years using balanced inputs for my DAC, CD player (both also Ayre) and balanced out to my amp. Background is dead quiet even if you put your ear up to the speaker. Very detailed, n...
Point of diminishing returns for a Network Streamers?
+1 for LUMIN streamers.  I too use a Mac, a 2014 vintage MacMini with a 4-core I-7 processor. A few specifics. The improvement in clarity and the timbre of instruments was very noticeable. I went from (1) a direct USB connection from the MacMini ...
Which DACs are known to be sweet/rich/relaxed?
@robert1976 If 95% of the recordings sound fine, you are seeking a solution for the 5% that don’t. A solution that makes those 5% sound fine may adversely affect your satisfaction with the other 95%. I reiterate my view that a software or hardware...
Which DACs are known to be sweet/rich/relaxed?
@robert1976, You answered your own question in my opinion. “I used to have a Dan D'Agostino Momentum Integrated. I'd use the tone controls and simple cut treble 1 or 2 dB. I don't have that flexibility any longer.” Sometimes the simplest solution...
Tiny Room (6' x 9') speaker advice
In addition to the LS3/5a types consider the Totem Acoustic Sky bookshelf/stand mounts. Lower bass response than the Harbert/Spendor/Falcon units, can be placed within a foot of a rear wall, excellent imaging and detail and nice mahogany finish. F...
Stand Mount Speakers
+1 for Totem. Their Sky stand mount has relatively deep bass response with great mids and highs. Doesn’t need powerful amp. Made in Canada.    if your budget permits, Aerial Acoustics 5T is a spectacular speaker made in the US.
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
I've been following this thread and have decided to weigh in and I acknowledge that all of my comments are simply my observations and opinions. I am not as interested or competent in the technical aspects of audio as @erik_squires, @millercarbon a...
Who uses ADS Speakers
Still have two sets of CM5’s in two bedrooms. My son has inherited my CM6’s which I had stand mounted and supplemented by an M&K sub. Replaced those with Aerial Acoustics 8b towers. Aerial was founded by Michael Kelly, formerly of ADS, who sti...
Need help choosing a new DAC
If you are willing to purchase used equipment I would add the Ayre Acoustics QB 9 or later QB 9DSD to your list. These are USB only DACs which were more expensive new than the CODEX, have both RCA and balanced outputs and are available used on Aud...
Need help choosing a new DAC
I would add the Ayre Acoustics Codex to your list. It’s $1,995 new and has both USB and optical inputs. It’s somewhat comparable to the Benchmark in that it’s very neutral sounding and highly resolving, but unlike some solid state gear not edgy or...
